Alright everyone. Its going to be my first game at Lane Stadium... where are the best seats?! Obviously im trying to be 50 yardline and in the mix... but how do the rows start? For instance, i see Row U and RRR, what would be lower down? Any info or advice on tickets or whatever, please let me know. I'll be going to the Friday night game for NC State.

Here's the seating chart to help you out. Use the 3D one. It helps the best: hokietickets.com

IMO, there isn't really a bad seat at Lane with the exception of some of the seats South End Zone. You can pretty much see everything from anywhere. North End Zone gets a little tricky with some viewing angles as well but the atmosphere of being surrounded by students makes up for it (Unless you're older and that's not your vibe). North End Zone is all students. Lower level East are non-students and the Upper level East stands is a mix with students mostly in the higher rows. West stands is non-students (and also tends be older ie 45 and up). South Endzone is non-student at the lower level (plus the Corps) and the top level is mixed. Also, if you end up with a visitor's tickets, you'll be southern half of the East Stands pretty far up.

Personally, I prefer lower level East stands, somewhere about midway up. I don't really care about the yardline because I can see the field fine and the Tron is fucking huge anyway so you won't miss anything. As far as advice, get to Blacksburg early and enjoy the entire day tailgating. Head to the stadium about 30 minutes before kickoff. That should give you enough time to get into the stadium for Enter Sandman. You do NOT want to miss Enter Sandman, especially at a night game. So you might wanna leave your tailgate earlier than 30 minutes just to make sure you get to your seat in time.

Just want to say thank you sooo much wild turkey... i think right now im looking at section 18 based on the tickets. im 31 and can party with the rest of them so i dont mind the students at all. i think im more excited for Enter Sandman than anything else right now so i'll definitely head in early.

Thanks for letting me know about the seats. i dont want to sit to low where i dont have the overview but not high enough to not see who is who. lol. but your info has been extrememly helpful.

I've only sat in the West stands one time. The seats themselves are fine. Its a perfect view of the field. The atmosphere there is a bit more relaxed though. It's more older people (40s and up) that have had their season tickets for years and years and also more families.

hokiesports.com

That site should help you with all your questions. But off the top of my head, yes, you'll need to get a parking pass if you want to park on campus. Campus has public lots and Hokie Club lots. I'm guessing you're not a HokieClub member since this is your first game so that means you'll have to park in the Public lots. Unless they've changed, those lots are on the backend of campus along Price's Fork Rd, making it about a 15 to 20 minute walk to the stadium.

But here's what I do (since I'm a cheap bastard that hasn't donated to HokieClub yet to get a primo parking spot):

Lane Stadium

(zoom out to see some of the streets)

See those side streets that are just off campus (Otey, Center, Green, Clay, etc)? That's a residential section of Blacksburg. On game days, many people who live there allow private parking and tailgating there and will have a sign outside that says "Parking". It's usually to 10 to 20 bucks. For weekday games (like Thursday Night games), its perfect because you can tailgate there all day. The campus lots don't open up till late afternoon for these games. And its an easy walk to the stadium from those streets because there are paths cutting through the small wooded area that leads right to the gates. Most home owners are pretty cool about it too. They're up front with you about what you can and can't do, how long you can leave your car, and most will even let you use their bathroom.
