Drudging along during this stretch is really not helping the post-season odds. Still think this team is better built for 2019-20 anyway, but they can keep it entertaining.

The pickup of Heckavubluhbluhbluh shows the FO still thinks there in it and he's a good defensive guy off the bench.

Glasnow had a big start. 9 K's and more importantly 0 BBs in 4. Still think it was the right move to trade him because he just didn't look like he'd hit his ceiling here but it's gonna look reeaaaaallllyyyy bad on the development side if he hits it.

I agree he looked good. I wonder, with the short starts, if they are shielding him to not hit that 2nd/3rd time through the order? If so probably a good development tool for him.

He is the only other real SS on the roster outside or Mercer. Way better glove but worse bat, if the offense stays consistent I am fine with him starting more.

I think the Rays are doing that with everyone. I think they are even playing around with 'openers' for 1-2 innings then 2 long men for 3 innings each. If it works, more will follow, especially if your rotation is garbage.

Playing like that would really hurt opponets batters with big time L/R splits. Ya we are starting a lefty, for 1 inning lolz.

That seems to happen more often that not with those "Bullpen" Games. It is a sad state in baseball when you can't put out 5 starters that can go at least 5 innings.

Central Notes: Martin, Cutch, Bucs, Hamilton, Carpenter

Two interesting articles here:

1. McCutchen on past trade deadlines:
We felt we had a good team to compete, but then you see other teams making those moves, getting the key pieces to their team to make them stronger, and you feel like, “Dang, we’ve got to do something, too.'

2. The theory that they made those deals this season due to declining attendance. Would not doubt it.

Marlins Acquire Chris Bostick

No major loss here. Now on his 4th organization of his career. Better to get anything for him now since he didn't have a chance in Pittsburgh.
With that I love some the posts in the article acting like he is going to be the next great player.

So Cervelli took the foul ball off the mask and was pulled due to concussion like symptoms on Saturday. Gee can they just stop it now.

The PTBNL for Archer was Baz.
Well that was pretty steep for Archer in comparison what they got for Cole.

It seems this year is done lets hope this keeps them a contender next year.

So, we go from perpetual loser for 20 years to this, perpetual mediocrity.

Yep tonight bottom of the 9th down 1-0 and your two "best" hitters are up and both strike out swinging and then David Freese gets on base.

I refuse to follow MLB until a salary cap is in place like all the other major sports have. Most teams can't compete against the dozen or so Moneybag teams.

Getting swept by the Braves....stick a fork in them.

And since scoring 20 in two games they scored 20 in eleven games.

Archer has been hot garbage thus far.

Just watch. The one time the Pirates make a move like this it will entirely blow up in their faces.

What's the over/under on All Star games for Meadows and Glasnow going forward?
