@Texas Jefe jefe what say you?

Just beat out. Bonney is probably going to Tech. Bonney was valuable depth. Smart player that can play a few different positions, but wasn’t a starter at any of them

Under-the-Radar College Football Teams That Could Become Surprise Contenders

Texas Longhorns

  1. Sam Ehlinger or Shane Buechele? Tom Herman and Co. are looking for fall camp to determine the answer at quarterback. No matter the winner, hopefully injuries don't dictate the position again.

Because if one of them locks down the job, Texas' defense should be a fine complement. Every unit has at least three experienced players returning—including All-Big 12 corner Kris Boyd—from a defense that ranked second in the Big 12 last season.

The opening half of the campaign will be challenging, though. In a four-week stretch beginning Sep. 15, the Longhorns host USC and TCU then travel to Kansas State and Oklahoma. The season opener at Maryland shouldn't be discounted, either.

Quarterback play will shape Texas' success—or lack there of. But the question isn't whether the Longhorns have the talent; it's all about whether they'll execute.

I say good for him. Herman has a soft spot for the guy-he's worked hard, never bitched or got into trouble, served as a leader on a team committee. He's not going to play this year...not sure if yall know the quality depth in the secondary Texas has. He has some good moments last year, good, solid depth player.

This is the only part of this thread I’ve read, I don’t need to see the rest. We know they have money, just means they do less with more than most everybody else. It’s not changing, doesn’t matter who the coach is.
They are taking a page out of Jerry Jones' playbook. Winning games isn't important. Revenue generation is what it is all about.

After all, wasn't that the impetus behind realignment?

on the one hand, I agree. We will suck until we don't. Believe me, I get it.

on the other, winning the NC is really all that matters in the end, right? I mean, that's what everyone says. And Texas did win one in 2006. So, here's the teams that can really talk shit since that point in time:

Bama, Clemson, OSU, Auburn, Florida, LSU

I agree to an extent. But as an OU fan we haven't won a NC since 2000 but all of the Big 12 championships are nice. And the playoff games even as loses aren't to bad. Being one of the winning-est teams over that time frame isn't bad either. So like I said, I agree but there are other things.

I'm stoked for football season, that's about all I have to say now.

There was an interesting question posed on the radio today. "How many Texas offensive starters would be starters for OU?". Granted this was on an Oklahoma station but the number was very low. I had never looked at it that way. I just always viewed Texas as loaded with talent. I realize the defensive side is a different story. Any thoughts from a Texas fan?

RB: no... Ingram is getting love as a true freshmen, so maybe he is a stud..I guess we will know about that by week 4-5. Even if he is a stud, he would still just get a handful of carries at OU. OU has 2 good RBs with experience
QB: this seems to be a no, but I am not sure. Kyler was worse as a freshmen than either Texas QB. Ehlinger has been great or terrible, so hard to know what he will be. I’ll bet on inconsistent. Shane might excel at OU. Kyler has a lot of weapons so he doesn’t have to be great to put up numbers
OL: pretty much an emphatic no. Here lies the main problem
WR: I think C.J. and Humphrey could start. I don’t think OU has that kind of size. Both of those guys have NFL potential. They become scary if you can add some fast shifty guys around them.
TE: I don’t know what OU has there. Texas is mediocre at best

Yeah, I don't like any of those three QBs on either team. Me thinks they were good HS QBs and maxed out there.

I don’t know, man. I think those two would see time on the field at Oklahoma but between Lamb, Brown, and Calcaterra they wouldn’t be starting. They’d be battling some damn good but unproven talent out to get in the rotation.
