Considering they're counting on him to help them get to the finals...I'd say the Rockets do.
hes what? at best there 6th most important player? Its like saying the Lakers are counting on Stephenson to get them to the playoffs.

Stephenson is a bad example. More like Rondo or Hart (whomever ends up being the first man off the bench).

i was going more for the 1 year min. contract--- though Stephenson is getting about double what Melo is salary wise

oh the ROCKETS

yah i am glad that you didnt mean the Warriors- that would have been funny. lol. Anyone that thinks the Warriors will be rebuilding in 2 years needs to lay off the peyote. lol.

Something would need to poison the water, making a few guys from Durant, Klay and Dray decide to go elsewhere. Getting thrifty all of a sudden could do it.

You know that. And I know that. However, the Rockets don't appear to.

Not really, since Melo is still getting 1/3 of that old contract cash over each of the next 3 years on top of his Rockets contract.

what makes you say that? they put a minimal investment into him.

I think if anything they know they have to baby his ego- but nothing i have seen makes me think they think he is a crucial piece to the team. Dude is getting the vet. min on a 1 year deal. By definition you cant get any less risky than that.

He's getting the vet minimum because he was bought out. We don't know what he would have gotten if he was an FA. The Rockets are talking like he's a difference maker.

His ego is exactly the problem. Considering what he has said historically...what happens when D'Antoni says "I need you to come off the bench" or when Melo decides he's not getting enough touches or playing enough late in games?

If Melo can adjust his ego and accept that he's going to be, at best, a 3rd option...then it has a chance to work. But if he remains who he has always been...it could get real ugly, real fast.

thanks for your permission. lol

my definition for a rotation player always has been and always will be EXCEEDINGLY simple.

Does this player meaningfully contribute on a nightly or near nightly basis?

that answer, of course, for McCaw, has been and likely always will be (unless something changes drastically), NO.
lol you always put 10 on 20. A rotation player is simply a guy that is part of the rotation - as in either starting or coming off the bench regulary with the 2nd unit. SMH. McCaw was the latter of the two until his back injury.

i agree that the ego is the problem- i just dont see how that equates to the Rockets thinking he will be anything more than their 6th most important player.

for them- since they arent counting on him- i think he is a decent signing. If he doesnt work out and is an issue they can just cut him or trade him no problem with a 2M dollar cap figure. Seems low risk/potential nice reward if he works out- if not just cut him.

its hard for me to see him, at best, anything more than a 4th or 5th offensive option- playing like 25 minutes a game.

Okay this isn't NBA related but it's funny as hell. Have you heard about this yet?

Fans to get free beer w/ Browns first victory

10 Cleveland area bars have purchased 8-foot "Victory" fridges filled w/ Bud Light bottles.

I saw this article & the 1st thing I thought of was the 10-cent beer night promotion the Tribe had back in the 70's.

might get a tad thirsty around them parts... :heh:
