I don't think Philly has worse fans than average, really

They get a lot of heat for having an a-hole fan base. I do think there's some truth in the stereotype, but I think it's overblown. For example, the whole beer cans being thrown at Vikings fans/F-Millie (the 100 year old Vikings fan story from the playoffs last year) signs, were certainly examples of that stereotype of Eagles fans.

That said, I can admit my team has it's own issues with annoying fans. For one thing, we have an unusual number of homer fans who are overly optimistic about our Superbowl chances each year. Being optimistic and hopeful is fine, but anyone who has followed the Vikings for even a couple of decades should know better than to act like stuck up pricks going into a fresh season. We have yet to get that elusive Superbowl win, yet we have an overly large portion of fans who act like we've been in as many title games as New England in the past 20 years. It's annoying having to reel them back in at the start of each season and try to get them to calm down a bit and let them win something before we brag. Examples include the Vikings fans doing the SKOL chant on the Rocky steps before the NFC Championship game, when every reasonable Vikings fan should have known damn well that the media was wrong to call Philly the underdogs in that game (I feared that playoff matchup all season long, including after Wentz went down. I thought we were screwed the moment Julio dropped that game-winning TD pass to let Philly get past the divisional round). Or the epic fail that was the "Going to Miami" song in 1998.

I'm more than fine with giving one another a good ribbing as fans at times. But I'm not going to act like my team's fan base as a whole is above Philly's, because the truth is we have just as many annoying fans as they do.

Side note - can the regular season start already?! The wait is really starting to get to me.

I went to see the Chiefs, the Titans and the Cowboys and their fans were noticeably nicer then my fellow Philly fans. I’ve seen the Rams and Chargers in LA and SD and I saw nothing obnoxious. I appreciate your objectivity but Philly fans are a different breed. I did get a lot of shit in SanFran and remember Seattle fans being cool too.

I guess mixing copious amounts of alcohol with a steady diet of cheese steaks results in a unique aggressive demeanor to a notable number of Philly fans/residents.

Philly is a gross city and smells like Thailand (a third world country)

I can see why Eagles fans from Philly are assholes and don't know how to fight.

Yes because all fan bases throw snow balls at Santa and eat horse shit:rolleyes2:

Philly fans are the worst by far. Give the 12s another 30+ years I may change my mind?

Dallas fans are just obnoxious. Most don't remember their championship days. They just have grandpa's stories and black and white reruns to watch.

GB fans are by far the most hospitable.

Every team has obnoxious fans (ok maybe not GB) that's because they live for those 8 home games a year. It's all they have. That's not a dig on them. They love showing off their pride and hospitality. I hope to get back there when they've finished all the new additions.
But some like Philly, Dallas, Seattle pink hatters and to a lesser extent the G-spots have more then their fare share. Something about winning championships brings out the idiots in droves.

I'm not too sure about the bolded. Maybe I'm just biased since I'm a Vikings fans and they are naturally less polite with us than fans from other divisions. But Packers fans have a history of lining up and legitimately mooning opposing teams busses as they leave Lambeau, hence the backstory to the fake moon Randy Moss did to the Packer fans after scoring that TD on them in that playoff game. I can also tell you first hand that Packers fans are at least as bad to Vikings fans as Vikings fans are to them, and I'd go as far as to say that someone dressed in Vikings gear would get a harder time in Lambeau on average than someone in Packers gear in U.S. Bank Stadium.

As far as the thread goes I'm just trying to extend an olive branch to Hooplans who root for the team that crushed my dreams back in January and remain a threat to do so again this year. I recall being overly harsh about their fan base on here after that game and for a brief time after the Superbowl over it. They're not ALL bad.

Fair enough. Maybe I should've clarified on places I have visited. I'd like to take in a game at the Vikes new stadium as well. Granted rivalries are not going to be as nice as they are to others. But Minny is going to really need to put on a show to have me change my claim. GB fans take you into their tailgates, they actually want you to come in even when you're wearing your team colors. Granted that may not hold true of you dress in purple? They offered us drinks, brats and going inside their customized vehicles. Most wanted to take pictures with us...

I've always liked Wisconsin. Minnesota not so much. But hey that's me and my problem.

I've been to a handful of Vikings games from the Metrodome era and one at TCF Bank during the transition to U.S. Bank. Haven't made it to U.S. Bank yet. Obviously I'm biased, but the whole "Minnesota nice" stereotype holds true there for the most part, and I didn't see fans of opposing teams getting a hard time beyond basic ribbings in good fun. In fact, one of them was when Detroit was visiting and the biggest D-bags I saw at the game were a small group of Lions fans several rows up from where I was. Not just cheering for their team, but being obnoxious to the Vikings fans surrounding them at every opportunity to be annoying. No one confronted them on it.

As stated in the OP, Vikings fans biggest issue isn't how they treat other fans at their home stadium, but that blind homerism has a tendency to run rampant in a large swath of the fan base. There still exist Vikings fans who will hold a grudge against other Vikings fans if they don't worship the ground Adrian Peterson walks on.

Why is this even being discussed? Obviously every fan base has their share of bad fans but the number of bad Philly fans dwarfs other team's fan bases by a long shot. It's not even debatable.

I'm going to go ahead and say that I firmly believe that Raiders fans give them a run for their money.

As far as "why is it even being discussed" goes, don't overthink it. Just passing some time until the regular season finally starts.

I will give Philly fans their credit. I expected their fanbase to double or even triple their obnoxious behavior, much like Pats and Shithawks fans did after they won their first Super Bowl. But for the most part, they have just maintained regular levels of obnoxious behavior.

It doesn't matter where you go, every team has assholes. First you have the tailgaters. These are people who have three weeks of vacation and use it entirely on Thursday and Friday between September and January. They leave their house on Wednesday after work and have a reserved spot in the tailgate lot. They can't afford a season ticket so they bring a 65" Tv and 40 other gaters all pull in their folding chairs at game time. They start drinking at 8:30 after bacon and eggs and don't quit until they pull out at 6:00 PM. Tyhen you have the guys who are season ticket holders, start drinking immediately after their second cup of coffee on game day. They leave foir the stadium at 10:00 Am even though it's less than an hour drive. They get to their seats about noon and immediately start looking for the beer guy. They spend between $144 and $192 on between 12-16 beers by the end of the game. At half time they're looking for a fight with anyone, fellow fan or another team's.

Generally the game assholes are drinkers. They do way too much of it and it controls them instead of the other way around.

Then you have the internet assholes......................no need to detail. Pats, Broncos, Seahawks, Eagles, Cowboys. Everyone loves their team and is willing to defend them to, "IGNORE". We're all guilty of being a bit over the top. But, there are few Eagle fans who are willing to tie 12 lbs. test line around their waist and jump of a 1200 ft drop bridge.

Amazing how stupid this irresponsible statement is. @Rambulance joined the Hoop in 2014 and is talking about 2001. Sorry, Hoop wasn't here in 2001. Or are you still licking your ass over getting your balls handed to you when the Pats started their dynasty in 2001?? The "Greatest Show on Smurfs" haven't been back since their one year run in 2000. I assume you think they'll be relevant in 2018???

I'm not over thinking it. I'm also not the one to start a thread saying Philly Fan's rep is overblown. I don't think it is, I think the rep is accurate.

This is an unpopular take OP.

My honest take: Philly fans are worse, because as Kevin12773 notes, many fans excuse the extreme behavior of a small but very obnoxious minority. That gives the whole fan base a bad name, with some justification. In most places these extreme asshats would be condemned, not celebrated as "great fans" who "sometimes get out of hand."

That said, I have lived all over the country, and there are asshole fans everywhere. My closest brush with violence came in San Diego of all places, after an Eagles-Chargers game, where I nearly got jumped by a bunch of gangbangers. The only thing that saved me is that I was with my girlfriend and cracked a joke about how this wasn't a good moment for me, and they suddenly felt like letting me walk away.
