Schraeder could play, and could be a nice backup to Russ, but still a good deal for the Hawks cause he has a whole host of issues, from effort to attitude, and that is poison on a rebuilding team

You do realize he is their 6th man and won't be starting next to Russ right?

Lineups overlap. It's not like its the NHL where you have line changes. Plus, even if that is the case, Schroder is a bit of a malcontent. He's not going to be content with the minutes he'll be given if he's strictly relegated to playing when Westbrook is off the floor. To give him minutes he's comfortable with, there's gonna be overlap. And I don't like that fit

OKC signed Noel to backup Adams.

Doesn't matter to me. There's 2 front court positions he could play as either a PF/C. With his shooting skillset at his size, I think there would be minutes in there somewhere.

They didn't need Stripe from the Gremlins infecting Collins and Young with his fuckery.

Him going to Houston makes so much since given that D'Antoni and him did great things and got along so well in New York

I think he will fill the role Reggie Jackson vacated/refused to accept in OKC.

They are very similar players imo...

Jackson balked because he wanted to get paid.

Dennis already has his contract.

So, it could work.

I mean yeah you're correct about lineups overlapping but I think half of his minutes will be with Russ on the bench. Last year Russ avg 36 MPG. My guess is he will be around that again and Schroder will avg between 22-24 MPG

I hope that seeing what OKC is going through to get rid of him makes a dent in Anthony's ego, but he's probably too stupid and delusional to notice.
Never liked this guy, it's always been all about his touches and he's too special to bother to play tough defense or pass the ball. I think winning the NCAA tournament as a freshman was a bad thing for somebody with his personality...obviously, he is a monster talent, my take is he just thinks he's a little too important and isn't willing to play a complete game on both ends to max out the benefit to his team.

Not sure how Dennis Schröder will fit but you have to give OKC GM Sam Presti credit.....he doesn' stand by and wait to see how things pan out. With all his issues....Schroderis a lo better than what I thought they'd get for Melo. at this stage of his career.

He's a top 3-5 GM in he League.

Well, Melo is gone. The experiment failed and cost us a really nice draft pick.
None of that is Melo’s fault. He was a good teammate. I was never a Melo fan but I wish him the best. Hope it works out in Houston.

Absolute miracle that the Thunder didn’t have to stretch Melo. That’s the big win here.

I liked the Muscala fit much better and I'm shocked they are sending him out. He's a sneaky effective role player. As a center that can shoot 3s, he'd be very nice piece for OKC to work in when Adams sits or any lineup where they need to space the floor more. I'd much rather have him than TLC, who is still somehow very raw.

$$$$$$$

TLC saves them considerably more on their luxury tax bill than Musky does. Not only that, but they also have to try and get some value out of Patrick Patterson who was a disappointment in year one of his deal.

Well,

If the year only play him 9 minutes a game, that is kind of a waste. He will play alongside Russ for stretches and I am with @wildturkey. Hate the fit.

This move was all about $ for OKC. I understand why they did it, but it does not make make them a better basketball team.

The Hawks have been trying to trade Schroder for months with no takers. He is a bad contract with multiple years left. Let's not act like Presti made some great move to acquire him. He is no more a trade asset than Melo was.

He's not a starter on a playoff team but he is a good backup that can score with the 2nd squad.

Agreed.

But, you have to factor in the contract and the fit when assessing value. Shroder may be a backup, but he is getting paid like a starter and he has a reputation for not being so great in the locker room. That is why nobody else wanted him.

I agree that the trade wasn't that great for the Thunder. But not for the reasons listed. Schroder can play 6th man for a season and repair his image enough to be shipped off to another team. The reason the trade wasn't good for the Thunder is the 1st round draft pick in 2022. That draft will be loaded and the picks 1st and 2nd round will have more value than any other draft in the history of the league. Lottery protected makes no difference. Players that go late 1st would have been lottery any other year.
