He's grown a lot over the years.
He deserves every penny he gets.

Always wonder what it was about Bob and him that made him leave.
Seems to have worked out.

I don't see Dabo ever going anywhere else, even Alabama, so Brent is going to be there a long time. I would have to think he has been approached more than a couple of times about a head coaching position, somewhere.
Bret definitely had some issues while running the defense alone, but you could see the talent and upside was certainly there.
It was about Mike mostly. Bob was already bringing Mike back to OU, but he wanted him and Bret to be co-defensive coordinators together. Even though he was gonna get a huge pay raise if he did stay. Can’t say I blame Bret for that at all. It has more than worked out for him, that’s for sure.

looks like he will be the 2nd highest paid assistant in the country. Yes, this is the same Venables that OU ran off in favor of MIke Stoops
Blood is thick.

I doubt he'd take a job at a place he couldn't win...even if the money was doubled. Now if another blue blood comes calling, that might be another story.

He might be waiting for his dream job to open up, but he played for Kansas State, and I can't imagine that being anyone's dream job. He might be like Bud Foster and be happy as being a career DC.

I think Venables and Foster are the same in the aspect that neither of them want to take a mediocre head coach job in hopes of building it into a job offer at a better school. I think either of them would take a good to elite level head coach job if offered. Foster actually interviewed at Clemson before they settled on Dabo, then turned down interviews at Vandy and Pitt later on. Foster just never got an actual offer that interested him. I do think Venables will get that offer in the not too distant future though. Defensive Coordinators just don't seem to be as sought after for head coaching jobs as they used to be.

Well thank God we settled. We ended up with a national championship winning head coach and the better DC.

It maybe changing. It used to be that you left when you could for a HC job, but now top coordinators are approaching 2 million in pay yearly. It isn’t the 4-5 million HC makes, but you don’t have to deal with half the BS and get to actually focus on coaching. I think the economics are getting to a point that top coordinators will really have to think about moving on, unless it is for a legit job.

I agree that it has changed.....but you still can't turn down that 4-5 million at a place you actually believe you can succeed at. You can still keep enough coaching clout to land another big time coordinator job if the head coaching job doesn't work out. Very possibly even at the same school you left if your replacement isn't as good as you are. I don't blame them for not taking mediocre jobs because they have such a good thing going where they are (like Venables) or are basically a living legend on campus (like Foster)....but these guys are too competitive not to desire a head coaching spot at a place they believe they can succeed at.....age, health, and family permitting of course. Foster may be at the point where he wouldn't want that dramatic of a change this close to retirement because he knows that's right around the corner....but i imagine even he would extend his career a little further just to see if he actually could succeed on that stage.

Fuck Mike Stoops. Venables could hold his own when it was just Bob. But when Mike came back, Venables couldn't keep his front 7 style of defense. Mike and Bob are back 7 guys and Brent got out voted, on recruiting. Kind of funny, Brent was our best recruiter and Mike Stoops is a lazy ass recruiter. Telling Brent to go after, under size, or slow hip DB's. Over a DT.

It ALL starts up front and Brent knows that, and WELL, we are Fucking stuck with Mike "I can't coach my way out of a cows ass" Stoops.

Good for Brent, he's a hell of a coach and deserves every penny

And going back to the norm of beating VT like a red headed step
child

lulz

What are you even bitching about? I didn't even insinuate Clemson "settled." They picked Dabo over Bud (and others who interviewed i'm sure) and that clearly was a really really good decision. Go wash the sand out of yourn poosay and stop getting e-mad.

Settling would have been hiring your now head coach as OC when we had the chance. Instead we hired Chad Morris.

And you went and made it personal. Maybe the vagina that needs a sand rinse is yours.

Enjoy looking up at us in the standings for a long, long time.

Venables prolly got them hooked on cocaine and they are scared to lose their hook up

you sure do get yourn poosay hurt quite easily

should we break it in gently or just go full force and get it over with at once?

Seems to me the only one rustled is you. YOU went immediately to a personal attack over a post about your football team. Perhaps the one in the wrong spot is you kid.

Evidently you are right son...Rivals tends to be more mature than the 6th grade bullshit you like to engage in.

Just dig a little into the history of your never was program and you'll understand that Dabo simply returned the relationship between the two schools to the norm. There's a reason why when the ACC was formed in 1953 VPI was left behind with The Citadel and Furman.
