If I'm the Lakers, around December I start calling Toronto to see if I can get Kawhi for Hart/Kuzma/filler or Ball/Hart/filler or maybe even just one young guy and filler. His value is gonna keep dropping and if its clear he's not going to resign, it's perfect chance to go ahead and get him to make sure you've got him in hand. Get him on the cheap, don't let him go elsewhere or have the chance to meet with other teams in free agency next summer.
You would need to up the offer or risk having a Pg13 situation.

The Clippers would offer more and we have SG-A, a home grown talent.

If you want him by the deadline, Masai gonna go with highest bidder.

Remember: he loves abusing the Knicks.

He did it in Denver with Melo and in Lebronto with Bargnani.

He won't hesitate to go to that well again and you could be in a bit of trouble if he lands in New York.

They'd have Zingers, Kawhi and the ability to add Kyrie and Butler.

Punchline of my post.....I wouldn't fuck around trying to lowball a shark like Masai.

Thank you Spurs. Kawhi to the Lakers is pretty much a lock now.

And they didn't have to give up anything for him

So basically, Toronto has a a year to convince Kawhi to stay. A year is a long time and Toronto is a world class city, so maybe they have a decent chance.

Yup..............They won 60 games last season so maybe they think they can go to the finals with this upgrade.........I still dont know if they are rebuilding or trying to win now..............Guess we will find out before the trade deadline.

I think if the Raps wait too long.....ie the traded deadline......the Raps get Deng, Kuzma (no chance in Hell they offer Ingram) and a 1st rounder.
Why must you be ridiculously unrealistic?

The Lakers won't be their only choice of trade partner.

Nobody wants that Shit Deng contract.

They are better off clearing both salaries and having capspace.

Listen, the Raptors win this trade even if both Green and Leonard bolt.

They shed long-term salary.

I wouldn't be surprised to see both guys flipped by the deadline.

Raptors don't give a fuck about helping the Lakers if it will help them.

Parts of young Lakers to the Wolves, Kawhi to the Lakers, Wiggins gets deported back to Canada.

I don't care if the only thing offered is a kick in the dick, if anybody wants to take Wiggins it is a massive win for the Wolves.

At the deadline they will have no leverage, especially since they know he wants to be on the Lakers....not to mention there's also he possibiliy he sits out.

This isn't like the PG situation. Kawhi doesn't want to be in Toronto. The weather is shit and the taxes are high.

Kawhi to the Lakers is pretty much a lock.

Crazy.

From the Celtics point-of-view... this seems like good news... in that I think Philly would have been a much more dangerous challenger if they got Kawhi.

Now, about Toronto... if Kawhi is healthy and motivated, the Raptors have a very strong team. But is Kawhi either of those things?... especially the latter? Totally unknown at this point... all we have is rumors. So we'll see.

I'm telling you what, though... if these rumors of Kawhi not wanting to play for Toronto are true... and if he doesn't show up in a big way next season... I've about lost all respect for the guy.

Lmfao

Dude, please stop.

At best, they get him to stay.

At worst, it was a salary dump.

Letting him walk sets them up for Free Agency the following year.

They could trade him to another team that thinks they are a Kawhi away from winning it all at the deadline and get back picks, expiring.

Then with Derozan of the books...

In 2020-21, Toronto only has the $10.9M Norman Powell salary and $3.9M OG Anunoby team option counting against the cap.

Here are the financial implications for Toronto by acquiring Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green:

If he's going to be swayed by entertainment types, I don't think Toronto is going to win out over LA. Cold and taxes are a tough sell too, but Toronto is a beautiful city. Who knows, maybe he does stay. He's certainly a HUGE upgrade over Derozan.

Kawhi/Green for Derozan/Poetl/2019 1st (top 20 protected). Other than the pick, is that really better than losing Kawhi for nothing? Poeltl is a lumbering big, Derozan is an overpaid (27.7m for each of the next 3 seasons) mid-range shooter. Looks like a potential salary dump for Toronto at worst (if Kawhi leaves), as Green is an expiring contract.
I think you underrate DeRozan. He’s a very good player. Given the situation, I think San Antonio did a great job in this trade.

honestly....

does anyone really think that if the Raptors went to the Sixers at the deadline and asked for Covington, and Saric the Sixers say no? You have got ot be kidding me....or that the Clippers wouldnt offer say SGA, and expiring Harris? I mean cmon. Or even if the Wizards or somethign wouldnt just offer an expiring like Howard, a pick and say Oubre? Or basically any team that is not offering a terrible shit contract and marginal young player. lol.

Yeah, that's my point.

I still think he ends up with the Lakers next Summer.

But, Masai ain't eating Deng....lol

They might as well have kept Derozan if they are going to eat a Shit salary.

Is it official?... I just got off of work and saw it was being worked on... (which is definitely good news, price seems in the reasonable range)

I think they did a great deal because they got a Allstar locked into a long-term deal.

They are still very much a playoff team with Aldridge, Demar.
