This assumes neither did Kawhi?

Kawhi certainly had trade value. But clearly the Spurs wanted immediate impact players and not young assets.

To be clear, I think the Spurs completely screwed up with this trade. DeRozan is 29 years old. He'll be 31 when his current contract expires, assuming that he doesn't exercise his player option. They gave up a prime asset because Pop wants to make a run now. But something miraculous happening the Spurs have gone from 1st round playoff exist to 2nd round playoff exit.

It would be funny if he sucked and San Antonio won 60 games with DeRozan.

Maybe his laurels are a results of the Spurs system and Popovich.

There hasn't been a great Spurs player that has left the Spurs during their prime.

They have a really good young core, besides DeRozan and Aldridge.

DeJounte is gonna be an All-Star in a year or two. They got Derrick White, who seems to be a Spurs fan favorite as well, and he lit it up in the Summer League before getting hurt.

Not to mention guys like Chimetzie (sp?) Metu, Lonnie Walker and others. Poetl is only 22. They have some things to build on, at least.

Do you know how hard it is to be an allstar point guard in the West these days?

Murray might eventually develop into his potential, but highly
doubtful he becomes an allstar anytime soon in SA.

I didn't know he was that old already. I think the Spurs did okay here. They clearly didn't want to trade him to a Western Conference and they got an all star, a decent big man, and a first round pick albeit a protected pick.

Yup. We'll see how that works out when he gets fined for not showing up to camp, practices, games, etc..

If he uses a medical excuse, then that's two years straight that you've had the same injury and teams will then know he's one of two things:

1) Seriously injured which then diminishes his value
2) He was full of shit the whole time and the NBA would likely step in in some capacity.

NBA can't step in if it's like the SA one.

They have no real justification for doing so. The team would have to complain first.

It's all about what they were trying to do. This was almost certainly the best trade they could have got if winning now was the priority.

The only other team that might have made sense was the Trail Blazers. They could traded for Dame perhaps.

The question is whether that was the best move for the team.

So basically, Toronto has a a year to convince Kawhi to stay. A year is a long time and Toronto is a world class city, so maybe they have a decent chance.

Nope. But we also haven't seen a team like the Raptors continually have regular season success like Toronto and be a complete disaster in the playoffs.
Clippers East...

Or

The Clippers are the Raptors West cause Ronto been killing the regular Season longer.

Listen, the Raptors win this trade even if both Green and Leonard bolt.

They shed long-term salary.

I wouldn't be surprised to see both guys flipped by the deadline.

Raptors don't give a fuck about helping the Lakers if it will help them.

Parts of young Lakers to the Wolves, Kawhi to the Lakers, Wiggins gets deported back to Canada.

If I'm the Lakers, around December I start calling Toronto to see if I can get Kawhi for Hart/Kuzma/filler or Ball/Hart/filler or maybe even just one young guy and filler. His value is gonna keep dropping and if its clear he's not going to resign, it's perfect chance to go ahead and get him to make sure you've got him in hand. Get him on the cheap, don't let him go elsewhere or have the chance to meet with other teams in free agency next summer.

I think Lakers will break off a couple pieces to try and win this season............What do you think DJ

I think if the Raps wait too long.....ie the traded deadline......the Raps get Deng, Kuzma (no chance in Hell they offer Ingram) and a 1st rounder.
