Seriously, DeGrom is under team control...what is he going to do, sit out? Go play in Taiwan??

Smart on his part if you understand the way the Mets operate. No team reacts to public opinion like the Mets. The fans are now out in full force demanding they sign him. I'd bet it happens before first pitch 2019

Only 3 in the loss column.

10 left H2H

And they're gonna have a rough patch at some point. They've got to, right? RIGHT????

:puzzled:

Exactly what I had said yesterday. Wish Dirt would understand this.

Don't see the rough patch being too rough

Conceptually makes sense, but just too many shitty teams they will continue to pound on

Yeah, I don't get it. I mean, I wouldn't bet on it, but according to Baseball Prospectus, FanGraphs and FiveThirtyEight, they Yankees still have about a 40% chance of winning the division.

Yup, and fangraphs has the remaining schedule winning % at .506 for Boston .482 for the Yanks.

Problem is, the Yanks are not beating up on the bad teams like Boston to this point.

Mathematically?

Of course not
Realistically?

Unlike most years, there are just soooooo many punching bags in the AL, and because of that, I don't envision many long losing stretches for Boston

The difference in the AL East to this point, and prob the rest of the way, Yankees play down to the level of shitty opponents, and Boston clobbers them, Yankees could change that trend, I don't see Boston all of a sudden struggling with the Detroits and Baltimores of the world
I'm thinking of something like Chris Sale's arm flying right off when he throws one of his funky breaking balls...surprised it hasn't happened yet. His motion reminds me too much of Kerry Wood's (mirrored).

I hope the Bosox don't repeat this bit of brilliance by the Cubs regarding Kerry Wood...
KW - my arm hurts
Cub Dr - pitchers need to learn to pitch through pain
KW - my arm really hurts
Cub FO to press - KW is a big baby and needs to learn to pitch through pain like all the great pitchers have
KW - OWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW
Cub Press Release - KW is having Tommy John surgery

A tough stretch for them is 7-3

Heck, the Bosox had a 14 game lead over the Yanks at one point in July 1978 and managed to cock that up...4.5 games is nuttin honey at this point.

That team would lose a few games in a row every now and then. (and had a losing record on the road)

Still waiting for this one to show some signs of that possibility.

But just like that year, it seems the two best teams in baseball are in the AL East.

Who was the other kid they ruined right around the same time?

Speaking of '78, a lot of people forget the Yanks made up that deficit quickly, and actually had a 3.5 game lead with only about 20 games to go.

Sox got hot again (won their last 8 in a row) to force the tie-breaker.

I think they were a little less extreme with Mark Prior, but he still got all hosed up. Probably a good dose of mental issues there to go with the messed up arm.

With Kerry Wood, you know, why be careful with a guy who pitched one of the greatest games in ML history a handful of starts into his ML career? Just jam on the gas, right?

Good point...just goes to show how much things can change from mid-season!

Dusty Baker happened. Kid threw 100 more innings in 03 than he did in 02, and down the stretch in 03 he was leaving him out there regularly past 130 pitches. Never the same after that.

He really could have been something, but never really got the chance.
