Not sure why people think taxes are ever part of these guys decisions. At that income level, there's nothing they can't afford in Canada, New York or California that they can anyplace else.

I can't remember a time where a player didn't go to a team because of the taxes

Really this.

If you're that stupid with your $ that it maters.....SMH.

Raptors had the fifth-best defense in the NBA last year. They just added 2 very solid Defenders and got rid of one of their worst. Love this trade give the Raptors a good shot at getting to the finals this year and rolling the dice to see how it works out. If it doesn't we've already started the rebuild by dumping DeRozan salary. Holding on to most of our young studs and adding a solid veteran and Danny Green is the cherry on top.

Huge roll of the dice for the Raptors.

Honestly what else could they do. I admire them taking a shot. If this works out it's amazing. Masai knew the Raptors needed to change. This gives them their best shot I've seen competitive this year and making the finals.

You guys say “another country” as if Toronto isn’t the 4th largest city in North America.

If they gave up multiple draft picks.....probably. Bu, they gave up DeRozan and some center.....everybody knew the Raps were doing something big after another failed postseason......and they did.

I agree but the rebuilding process could be faster with a Kawhi trade now by the Raptors. Getting picks and young talent is better then just letting him walk when it comes to rebuilding. Just ask the Celtics when they found a stupid trade partner in the Nets. Look where the Celtics are now.

If the Raptors keep Kawhi then it is a big win. Otherwise you traded your best trade asset for a one year rental and likely alienated Lowry and others on the team.

If he leaves the Raptors rebuild. this gives them another shot. If he walks then we have already dumped a 30 million dollar deal and Greens expiring contract

The Raps dont want to rebuild if they dont have to. this gives them another shot to make the finals and roll the dice

The only guy on the Raptors signed past 2020 is Delon. Lowry, Ibaka, JV etc. are all pretty much done here if/when Kawhi leaves anyway. I think the Raptors would probably try to upgrade on Lowry right now if there was a possibility out there.

All this trade did was trade two years of Demar and whatever potential Poeltl had for one year of Kawhi and Green. Everything beyond that is basically the same.

This is as no-brainer as can be for the Raptors.

The get rid of DeRozan's contract though.

Him and Lowry will both be off the books if they have to rebuild in 2 years.

Am I right?

I would personally rather live in Toronto. It's a cooler city.

I guess it depends whether you like Mexican women or Asian women.

Kawhi Leonard turned down a $220 million dollar deal. I'm guessing maximizing his revenue isn't the highest priority for him.

People who talk about the tax rates for these guys are usually trying to make a political point rather than a basketball one.

It's also about maximizing cashflow.

It shows who really has the most money to offer.

Agree. For regular folks, taxes can be a pretty big deal. For folks at an NBA level salary...not so much.

Plus, if I'm not mistaken, they are taxed according to each state they play in, so they really only pay the higher tax rate for roughly half the season.

that's the bigger statement.

it's a complete scam that these other states suck off the teet of these guys.
