Also, after the Futures Game, Shaun Anderson is getting promoted to AAA. Good for the kid, who's probably the top starting pitching prospect at the moment and now on the doorstep to the majors.

For some comparison, I looked at Posey’s development...

Buster Posey Winter, Minor & Fall Leagues Statistics & History | Baseball-Reference.com

He was drafted in ‘08 (exactly 10 years ago), but took longer to sign, so he didn’t have as much affiliated play that year. He did hit very well, just without the power. Then he went to the Hawaiian Winter League (??? I don’t remember this and don’t think I have even heard of that before) to get time.

In ‘09, he started in San Jose, but only lasted 300 ABs or so before he bypassed AA completely and went to Fresno. He got the call to SF because Molina was “hurt” and couldn’t play. Miraculously, once Posey was added to the 40-man roster and called up, Molina was able to play and didn’t miss any time. Truly miraculous.

Posey started ‘10 in Fresno before getting the permenant call to SF about midway through the season.

I have been saying I expect Bart to get his cuppo in late ‘20 and becoming the 60/40 or 55/45 backup in ‘21. But Posey proves that the path exists for that same plan, but 1 year faster. IF Bart gets the call to SJ this year, than I think it is entirely possible that we could see Bart in SF as soon as next year.

Posey was so advanced defensively, whereas Bart isn't. He's still a good defender (allegedly), but not Posey's level. And keep in mind, in the early year's Posey had some minor holes in his game, namely his blocking. He wasn't always the best (never bad), but definitely has improved that.

That being said both guys called their own games in college, which is a huge plus. Bart has been calling since his sophomore year IIRC. I can't say if Posey did that or not. Bart's power is also far superior to Posey's. So even if Bart takes a little bit more time to develop defensively, his power bat will (ideally) accelerate things, even as a backup to Posey for a bit.

I'm really thinking we'll see him next September (at this rate).

SJ comes to Rancho C this week and Inland Empire next month, so hopefully I will get to see him.

We had big debates back when Posey was drafted about trying to come up with appropriate comps for him. I was vocal about comparing him to Biggio. I partially made that comp because I thought there was a better than small chance he would be moved from catcher sooner rather than later, and because I was not convinced he would display a lot of power at the MLB level.

10 years later, I feel pretty good about my comp. Sure, he hasn’t been moved from behind the dish, but I think his bat has been quite similar to Biggio’s...

Yeah I'd be extremely thrilled with that type of career. But I think that's about what we can expect, lots of K's, not a ton of average, but plenty of pop and reliable defense.

If Bart does what Parrish did in Detroit over 10 years, that'd be a success.

Wouldn't be the worst catching trifecta with Bart as the primary, Garcia as the true backup and Posey as the 3rd/mentor. Expect that they're all right-handed
