They pay way too much attention to OBP in some cases. The kids OPS is over 800 and is an extra base machine.

I'm a fan for sure, but this piece had me believing he can go in the right trade

I have no issue with them trading him in the right deal but it better be for a top notch starter. Not too many guys his age put in this kind of production

I don't think anyone said he's having a bad offensive year. His wOBA (which is a better stat than OBP and SLG%) is .342, which ranks 12th among qualified 3rd basemen (just behind Duffy (.344) and ahead of Chapman (.339)). It's been a rather strong year for 3rd basemen offensively, 3rd basemen have an OPS only 4 points lower than 1st basemen this year (.773 to .769) and 3 of the top 7 hitters (per wRC+) are 3rd basemen (Ramirez, Bregman and Suarez). The problem is he rates as a poor defender, though 84 games isn't a good sample size for defensive metrics. He's on pace for about 2 WAR, which is an average player.

Suarez may be the most underrated player in the game only real fans know about

I'd include him for Snell

For De Grom of course, but that ain't happening

I can't imagine why Tampa would trade Snell. They own him for a long time and they have arms in the minor leagues coming up to join him.

They got him for Alfredo Simon, who was coming off a very fluky 2014 All-Star season. He had a 5.05 ERA in Detroit and then he went back to Cinci to post an ERA over 9. Lol.

Suarez hit pretty well in the minors (.276/.362/.417 as an infielder) and he reached the majors at 22.

Agreed, I just hear his name floated, maybe he has some arbitration payday coming

He hits arbitration 2020 but that's the 1st year so he really won't make any real money until 2021.

Yankees hammer that dude every time. I know he's got sparkling numbers, but every time I see him pitch, he's getting tattoed.

And no question you trade Frazier and Andujar w/in the division, they haunt us for years to come.

In case it's not obvious, I'm in the no f*cking way camp on this one.

Unless I'm getting Degrom, who I know can handle NY and has 2 more years coming I'm not trading either of those guys.

Degrom's agent just told the Mets to sign him long term or trade him.

Read a good article the other day that the Mets are crazy to not trade him right now. His value will absolutely never be higher than it is right this minute, he's 30 years old, and he's pushing for a long-term deal.

He'll be just as valuable after the season, especially if he ends up as the Cy Young. They don't have a GM at the moment so having him there should enable them to get a better GM. There's no way I let the present guys make the trade unless they get an offer they can't resist.

Yes he's 30 but he only has 5 years wear and tear on his arm. He has 2 years arbitration left so you can give him 5 years, buy out the 2 arbitration years and he'll be 35 at the end of the contract.

Still not sure why the Orioles just dont pay Machado.
What the fuck prospects are they going to get back that are so much better than Machado??

He will probably sign for 30-40 million/season. He is already making 16 million.
They can trade Adam Jones and Zach Britton for some throwaway late tier picks and more than make up the diffrence.

Manny loves Baltimore and has never asked to be traded. He would love to stay with his best friend Schoop.
It is the Orioles who are laser focused on trading their only sure thing for god knows why.
They are not even trying to make an offer.

Sure, Machado brings better prospects, but the Orioles have ranked dead last in player development for 30 years.
Prospects almost never ever ever ever pan out in the Orioles system.

The Orioles do many things well, but development has been horribly and comically bad since the 1980s.
Mussina, Markakis, Jones, Wieters, and Machado is about the entirety of the Orioles development system.

If Manny loves Baltimore so much, the Orioles would be foolish NOT to trade him. Trade him, get some assets, and then try to sign him as a free agent. Keeping him an extra two months on a lost season does nothing for them. Unless they are actively negotiating an extension in the months of August and September (and we know that's not happening) there is no reason to keep him.

Once you trade someone, it becomes a lot harder to get them back.

That is just human nature. They might harbor ill will, or more likely they might fall in love with the new team (Wifey might as well even more problematic).

If you want Machado, just offer him the full extension and see if he bites.

Baltimore seems to think there is no other option but to trade away the best asset they have had in 30 years.
