Per Blowers, their tailspin is because of the amount of games played (they must be the only team to pay this amount) and all the one-run games taking a mental toll on them...

I would say with Mikey Z being out, the staff has been sub par.

I like Blowers but those are piss poor excuses. Winning one run games gives the mental state of players confidence not a toll on them.

I am not quite there on that thought yet though I know a lot of fans are. I still think it is just natural regression for a marginal staff.

Exactly! If you have ever played a sport in your life you know you get a lift in games like those. I have never been tired after any win especially one you had to be totally engaged in.

You might be right on the natural regression of the staff, the timing of it and Z going down was probably a time bombs going off all at once.

Also agree. Those types of victories raises the players game. Blowers was trying to put out a raging inferno but needs to be truthful about it.

And I am not saying you are wrong. Maybe Z is that big of a difference maker. I just don't trust this staff and everyone on here knew going into the season it wasn't built to last.

Too funny. I just ran across this so others must be asking the same question:

You do make great points. Let's see how the staff rebounds when Z gets back. Believe me, I too didn't trust the durability of the staff at the start of the season.

To be fair, I said it would be an epic situation in order for them not to coast in the WC game. It would have taken the Mariners playing sub .500 and some other team playing .900. Well the A's are playing .900 ball and the M's are playing .350.
And a few of us have said it's a long season that never stays static. We've seen this over and over. Not just for the M's, but across baseball. This isn't a unique slide.

The question is how long will this slide last? Can they regroup, lick their wounds, and come back after the AS break with a tougher stretch of games and find something inside of them to allow the team to rise up and play solid ball again? August has quite a few potential stumbling blocks. If they can find another groove they may be able to keep their lead over the A's, if not they will be looking at their typical need for help late in the season to have any chance.

Just get one run. That may be all you need as this thing should be called soon.

Of course they couldn't get a run there. So now the Rockies will get one and then they will call it for rain.

So you bunt the catcher then PH Cruz for the pitcher instead of just PH for the catcher with Cruz? I would just walk Cruz, but that is just me.

I think the whole team is just burned out in addition to the other things mentioned. Look at what's been happening with the Astros-getting knocked around by the A's and losing today to the Tigers They are pretty spent too- not trying to make excuses but I think the break is def needed for the M's but also the Stros + who knows what other teams are struggling.
