Ant-Man & The Wasp (2018)

This picks up right where the first movie and Civil War left off. Not much to write about, it's really just more of the same, which works very well. Stay for the mid-credits scene.

Kingsmen: The Golden Circle

I really liked the first one. The second one sucked. A spin-off from The Golden Circle is in the works. The Statesmen. Meh.
I thought that the second one was okay and agree that it's definitely subpar compared to the first one.

'Upgrade.'

Sci-fi-ish movie in a near future where cybernetic implants are a reality. Kinda low budget, but the action scenes are well done. I'd recommend a cheap movie night. Definitely would be worth a digital download. Only one recognizable actor, FX budget wasn't huge, but not half bad. 6.5 out of 10

Blockers - wasn't impressed. Felt that the majority of funny moments were in the trailer and I don't like that they found a place to implant some politics. So tired of politics being pushed down everything. I would rate it a D.

Downsizing

Top 10 worst movies ever? That may be harsh, but it should certainly make the short list at least.

It had no idea what it wanted to be. Comedy? Sci-Fi extrapolation? Political propaganda? Celebrity cameo bonanza?

2/10

That's what I would have thought when I saw the trailer, but I thought it got decent reviews, which shocked me. Could me misremembering though- and way too lazy to look it up.

Quadrophenia: 3.5/5 stars. Decent movie with good Who music used sparingly throughout scenes to compliment it. Also, a pretty good depiction of what it feels like to be going through amphetamine psychosis while feeling like a total asshole loser who doesn't know where he fits in with his place in the world.

Sunset Boulevard: 2/5 stars. What a mess. Horrifically and purposely overacting =! good performance, Ms. Gloria Swanson.

Lol, look at the critic-audience disparity Downsizing

Audience knows best, obviously. It was terrible.

Like cal said, It's like it couldn't figure out what fucking genre it was. All over the place, and not in a good way. I was actually annoyed at the time I wasted watching it.

Ready Player One. I gave it a 6/10. Special effects were excellent but that's about it. Not one of Spielberg's best IMO

The mid-credits scene is my least favorite part of the film to be honest.

Hey, lets have a scene that totally undercuts the entire plot of the movie in order to sell a completely different movie. Brilliant!

I will say that its fair to say its 'more of the same' when it comes to Ant-Man. If you like the theme and pacing of Ant-man then you'll like the sequel. I know a lot of people think Ant-Man is middle of the pack and if thats the way you feel then I don't think the sequel is going to change your mind.

I just think the actors, writing and characters are better in Ant-Man than any other MCU movie except maybe Black Panther. Ant-Man and the Wasp really gets too ambitious with what its doing but the difference between it and something like the Thor Sequels is that Ant-Man sticks with a core cast of characters and maintains its own character motivations throughout both movies. When the story gets complex, they are able to use your knowledge from the previous movie to keep the whole thing going at a good clip.

Its a much tighter experience than most MCU movies even though some of comic book science is absolutely ridiculous. I think its highly entertaining but maybe fails to be an epic comic book experience. If you go to the theater to watch the world coming to an end with some diabolical villain coming up with an epic scheme then this is definitely the wrong movie.

If you want to see a dysfunctional movie about a complex family of superheros never being in too much danger then go see Incredibles 2. Or Ant-Man and the Wasp.

I kept waiting for the movie to start. It was just one really long first act. It never stood up and said “This is what I am about”. Pick any one of the 15 mini-sub-plots and dig deep and it might have been decent. It seems like they just took the initial outline and filmed it with no editing and no reshoots. It didn’t even have an ending. It was just a first draft that somehow made it to production. And it actually had a decent amount of marketing.

The “political propaganda” portion of the movie was what got the critics wet, I guess. :noidea:

How anyone who has ever seen a movie in their lives could possibly think that was a movie worthy of giving any semblance of a good rating is beyond me.

Honestly, I'm glad I didn't see Downsizing but it took a couple of things.

1) Trailer that seemed to show all major plot points
2) The wife actually thought 'Suburbicon' and 'Downsizing' were the same movie.

Unfortunately Suburbicon also seemed quite awful from what little I saw.

Bullet Head - a DTV movie that wasn't as bad as I was expecting. John Malkovich and Adrian Brody did a good job with the material. 2.5 out of 5
American Made - Wasn't sure how this was going to be. I thought that it kept a solid pace and was interested in how the story turned out. Definitely worth a watch if you have HBO. 3.25 out of 5
Atomic Blonde - I tried watching this one but I just couldn't really get into it. Had some decent fight scenes but I didn't end up finishing it (had around 40 minutes left to go). I'll stick to watching John Wick movies to get my assassin fill. 2 out of 5 (from what I saw)
Forgetting Sarah Marshall - Thought that it was hilarious. Some parts didn't go how I expected it to go but it ended up where I was expecting. 3.5 out of 5
Baywatch - This was exactly what I thought it was going to be. Had some funny moments and a generic plot. Wish that Alexandra Daddario was running in her bathing suit more though. 3 out of 5

I remember thinking, meh Kristen Wiigg is kinda funny and oddly hot sometimes, maybe she'll make it worthwhile, and then she was in what, the first 5 fucking minutes of the film? She was in every ad and marketing campaign!?

It was exactly as you describe it...like they filmed it all lineally, with no edits, rearranging, reshoots..nothing!?

I agree completely with it being one of the worst movies of all time. It's the only one that comes to mind, in recent-memory, that I was actually pissed off about after watching.
