Just saw Jay at the D[Backs game on Saturday. How can a team as shitty as the Royals trade a guy who's hitting .307 and playing a solid Center Field ever day?

Because the team needs prospects to fill out a very depleted farm system and they can sell high (relatively) on an average-ish player to a team that was in a huge down spiral at the time, K happy, and had AJ on the DL. They had the same kind of idea for Lucas Duda and a couple others, it just hasn't worked out for him.

They can also avoid Jay's incentives in his contract if the Royals traded him when they did.

Sounds right. Fits right in for one of the most cheapskate organizations in professional sports.
