and sense it is unlikely that the mariners trade for pitching

then raising the floor on Batting ave and Hr.s with cano out..would seem the logical way to go

giving the pitching some extra runs/relief..would not hurt

the best chip ===cano...........sorry to say

but i would really go for patrick murphy or angel perdomo...and solarte
giving cano..and romine

which would set them up for some revamping...or continue..to revamp
cano can DH till his contract runs out........easy
toronto has pitching in there minors it should arrive about the time they start winning again..maybe two years

I'm pretty confident Dipoto will trade for a starter. I really don't think you can reasonably expect Marco and Leblanc to last for a full season. Happ has been thrown out a bunch and I think that's the route they need to go. Not saying exclusively Happ but a Happ like pitcher who is essentially a rental and wont cost much.

I don't see any reason to trade a guy like Lewis or White unless the division looks attainable. That's saying I am settling for a WC spot, I just don't think you make that kind of mood when the chances of catching Houston are probably 5-10% chance at best.

Ramirez shouldn't be relied on for anything at this point. He isn't even throwing yet and if he does somehow make it back, it will be late August/Early September for a bullpen role. Miranda has also battled injuries and Bergman, although had the good start is just a depth piece. An Innings limit has to be a concern for Marco who hasn't pitched a full season yet and Leblanc's next start will probably put him over the most innings he's thrown since 2011. Also lets not forget Paxton still hasn't shown he can stay completely healthy yet.

I really think with the amount of teams selling this year, a rental arm like Happ wouldn't cost a ton.

That is where I'm at and why I like the idea of Happ. If the 5 guys are who you are going to go with, eventually innings are going to catch up. Strasburg (who is was much better than anything they have) got shut down and he had more innings as a starter than Marco or Leblanc or hell even Paxton. Trade for Happ or name a guy and go with a 6 man rotation. They have built a big enough lead where they can afford to save innings on guys by pushing them into 6 days rest.

I don’t think they should trade for any rental type player this year. They aren’t going to beat Houston, NY or Boston in a playoff series. The juice just ain’t worth the squeeze.

ramirez is the two seam fastball guy teams like to put at the end of the rotation..and even better he could go out of the pin as well..so either way..you had it coverd
a two seam fastball guy with a similor resamae would be good...or trade for a #3 guy less likely and make leake take
ramirez spot...but leake is pitch well and typeicaly gets better later

with cano it could be possible..but torontos better pitchers are in the minors..that is why they are loseing combined
with there best hitters with over 150 ABATS..there ave is 259 solarte in next with 252 so we would be giving
star stuff for less than star stuff.+romine .so we would get a good minors pitcher..or marcus strowman/take ramirez spot
and the mariners will send the minors pitcher
garcia or mclane from modesto
if it is the first one ..mariners can just find a better pitcher some where else after that

I agree they likely don't catch those three but that shouldn't eliminate them for looking at a rental player. At this point the goal isn't just to get to October, its to succeed in October.

No rental player will get them over the hump this year. We are essentially the Twins of last year. Just enjoy the extra game we will get to play and don't mortgage the future any further.

Disagree. I'm not saying trade Lewis, Carlson or White for a rental. A guy like Happ wont cost anything close to that. This is baseball, you get in and you have a shot. Even facing Sale in Fenway you probably have 35% shot of winning. Its not like the NBA where only 3 teams have a realistic shot once the playoffs start.

It's not Sale that's the problem, it's Porcello, Price and Eduardo that come after, compared to LeBlanc, Leake, Felix or Marco

Right which is why I would like another starter. Not saying a Degrom that would cost Lewis or whatever else but a Happ type that wont.

Wade LeBlanc and Mike Leake have both made the Red Sox their bitch this year.

There is absolutely no guarantee not getting an upgrade this year makes success in 2019/2020 any more likely. After 18 years of futility, you have to give yourself the best chance at success when you have such a likely playoff opportunity this season.

Outside of Carlson, White and Lewis there really isn't anyone that would be mortgaging the future. I like the idea just so it sets up the rotation for the WC game. Paxton IMO wasn't terrible against the Sox, his defense let him down and the scorekeeper screwed Paxton. In NY he gave up one bomb and an average fly ball out in any other park. I'd feel more confident playing the Yankees on a cold October night though than the more well rounded team IMO which is the Red Sox.
