Sounds like the JT Six are the Sharks, Stars, Bruins, Lightning, Predators and Leafs.

Let me be the first to welcome Tavares home :D

Ranked in order of Cap Space (most space to least)

Islanders
Leafs
Dallas
SJS
Nashville
Boston ($12M space with 18 contracts today)
TB ($10.5M space with 19 contracts)

Ranked in my order of likely to win a Cup in next 3 years

TB
SJS
Nashville
Toronto
Boston

Dallas
Islanders

Ranked by local city tax cost

TB/Nashville/Dallas
Boston
SJS
Islanders
Toronto

Opportunity for outside (sponsorships) income

Toronto
Everyone else

Where does he go? No idea. Lots of media speculation that chance to win PLUS lack of media attention are big decision points. Is that accurate? Only JT knows.

My guess. The serious contenders are Leafs, Sharks and Preds. Not necessarily in that order. I think the rest are just tire kicking.

With Toronto is there worry about the future contracts of Matthews, Marner and Nylander? If they sign Tavares will one or two of them be priced out of an extension.

I think that is true of all of the teams, not just Toronto. Well except maybe for the Isles. The cap means you cannot have a ton of elite level players. For next season, Toronto has over $24M of cap space and only has to sign Nylander. I do agree though that keeping JT long term plus all 3 of those will prove difficult if not impossible. My guess is the thinking of the Leaf brain trust is "if we can get JT for next year, the other 3 will show via their play who deserves the money and who does not". Personally, I can see a path where Matthews is the odd man out. Well, I can see a path for any of the 3.

JT is a known, elite level commodity. The other 3 have clear skill and show elite level of play AT TIMES. Not sure any of them have shown YET that they deserve $8M+ a year.

Its a gamble for sure.

Honestly this is the reason I would sign him, I think though they wouldn't be able to get him short-term deal so most likely if/when they price themselves out of one of the other three it is time to deal them. Or if the 'unknown' occurs trade one of them before their value drops.

Side note maybe JT can make Kapanen his new personal Matt Moulson?

Offer him a max 1-yr deal, then extend him later in the year at a lower AAV.

And if not, they can always trade Nylander for a d-man once the cap becomes an issue.

This is the short, concise version of my thoughts. :thumb:
We can also just ship Marleau to Robidas Island.

Worry about the future in the future. It's a different game when you're dealing with actual, no-shit talent as opposed to "ah fuck, do we keep Bozak or Grabovski? Can we weather losing Kulemin? WHAT ABOUT CLARKE MACARTHUR?!".

So no Carlson and Tavares apparently having no interest, time to get creative Ray. I hear that Karlsson fella might be available.

I think so too, mixed thoughts about it. I like him but not for what he'll get. Is he a 7 over 7 guy? Maybe he'll take a bit less to play close to home.

Pretty solid 30 goal guy. Big body but plays soft. Might have the best hands in the League from within 5 feet, but doesn't do a whole lot the other 195 feet.

Worth 7 per? He is if he gets it, not sure he will though.

The rumo(u)r flowing locally is that Rick Nash and the Jackets have been talking. Also some rumblings that Nash may try to bring Bog Momma Thornton with him.

Only media outlet reporting any of this is twatwaffle though, and he hasn't said the Thornton part. Grain of salt, etc.

He was definitely clutch for Boston in the playoffs with his *checks paper* three goals.

His presence will keep Dubinsky off the ice more. Net win. He's a third liner, maybe second PP unit guy. Especially if he brings Big Mama with him. Push Dubi away and give us no reason at all to sign Calvert.

Baby steps.

Hey, if you think the answer to overpaying one useless player for 3 years is to go out and overpay another useless player for 3 years feel free I guess.

/I also have no idea who the hell big mama is lol

No Preds after all.

I don't really care where he goes if it isn't Toronto but it would be nice if it weren't fucking Boston or especially Tampa.

Also, this is my favourite part of the offseason so far:

Pierre needs to brush up on his English. First sentence: JT will meet with 5 teams in LA. Next sentence - JT will ALSO speak with 2-3 teams on the phone and meet with 1 - 2 teams.

So ho many frickin teams is it? :noidea::noidea::noidea::noidea::noidea: 5 or 5+2/3 + 1/2

/love the MTL diss

Yeah, it sounds like he's going to talk in one way or another with a third of the league.

Hope that still means no MTL lol

Big mama is Joe Thornton. He supposedly wants to give one more year a go. Him and Nash are good friends.

And I would rather pay for Nash than Dubinsky because Nash will not give us 5 minute penalty kill every other game because someone on the other team looked happy. Nash is also not very likely to get sent home from a team trip for being a douchebag. He isn't very fiery, but he's also not going to be a discipline problem. He can play the Vanek role.

And the Jackets aren't going to give him a huge deal with Panarin and Bob due for contracts next year. He reached out to the Jackets. His wife wants to come home. If they get it done cheap, I am all for it. Then they just have to dump Dubi somehow.
