I think its mostly just guessing in the offseason.

2017 Athlon Predictions vs reality:

Georgia +4 wins
South Carolina +2 wins
Mizzou +2 wins
Kentucky push
Vandy -1 wins
Florida -4 wins
Tennessee -4 wins

The predictors really only had Kentucky and Vandy nailed. Other teams over and underachieved.
Yikes ... That's just regular season? You're not including the bowls?

The Bowl game does not count in regular season win totals - for the wager I made.

Mizzou is still kinda the new kid on the block but it seems like the SEC East seems to always have one team thats fairly underrated and two teams that are wildly overrated.

I don't put much merit in these preseason rankings. South Carolina could easily win the division. Georgia lost 4 of the top 30ish players in college football last year so even if they're stacked I'm not firmly convinced they'll be as stacked as they were last year. There is also the possibility that Mizzou totally faceplants with a real schedule and Florida/Tennessee are both a year away.

edit - typo. SEC's backwards directions always get me

Mizzou plays at SC between Georgia at home at Bama. I got this wacky feeling that Mizzou upsets Georgia then loses at SC and of course loses at Bama. Anyway one of Mizzou's 3 or 4 losses will be at SC.

UF still has decent talent. I don't see why Mullen can't succeed there, but only time will tell. Seems to always come down to marginal/bad QB play with them. I doubt Tenn's depth. Stoops has won some fairly big games at UK, but doesn't pull good recruiting classes, they'll have to over-achieve this year. I guess we had a thread about Mizzou couple weeks ago from Code bro, say the same thing i did there: if they can fix the defensive issues, they'll be dangerous.

Gonna be a lot of close games deciding the fates of these teams.

That's actually a pretty favorable schedule. You figure losses against UGA and Clemson. You figure wins against Coastal Carolina, Marshall and Chattanooga. Going 5-2 against at Vandy, at UK, Missouri, A&M, Tenn, at UF and at Ole Miss seems pretty attainable. They MIGHT be favored in 6 of those 7 games(I'd guess an underdog against UF and possibly UK). It sets up nice for them to get to 8 as far as the schedule goes.

It is a good schedule for them.

We'll know early about them. Weeks 4 and 5...@Vandy, @ UK.
If they win those two they'll get 8 wins...anything less and they
won't make it.

Agreed. They almost have to take both of them for their to be a realistic shot at 8 wins.

Washington at 9.5 o/u is tough. Leaning towards the over but that first game is rough to start out east.

I see 7 pretty much guaranteed wins and 3 coin tosses. Also as a Georgia fan, that early season game in Columbia has me more nervous than any other game on the schedule.

Coastal Carolina, Marshall, Vandy, Mizzou, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Chattanooga should all be slam dunks.

A&M, Kentucky and Florida are coin tosses. They're a better team than Kentucky, but Kentucky has a little winning streak against them.

8-9 regular season wins is what I expect.

I have a gut feelin (I could be wrong) that UK could be facing some distractions before too long. There HAD to be some players that knew/were involved about this guys activities imo:

Dismissed Kentucky football player reportedly found with over $95,000 in cash during arrest

I think they are a W for USCe

USCe is the better team, so they should beat them regardless of distractions, but it's just hard for me to pick a team to end a losing streak against another team until it happens.

They will win exactly 7.5 games. Its impossible to win money on them.

We were in a great position to beat 'em last year. 2-0, first home game, stadium was sold out, recruits in the house, atmosphere was electric. First possession, Jake hits Deebo, he takes it to the house.

Then we absolutely sucked on O the rest of the game, didn't score again till 4th quarter. UK had a great offensive game plan, and they beat us on the line. That was the one game I would point out last year where our staff got completely outcoached. And it's been like that the last few years.

This year, I don't see a likely path to 8 if we can't beat UK.

UK lost their QB to graduation, and when he went down for a couple of series last year against Georgia, I saw his replacement, and lets just say, they'd better have some stud RBs and o-linemen if they want to match their record from last season.

USCe has better and more experienced talent, but like I said, hard to pick against an active streak until it ends.
