Good to see even if chances are low, that the Spurs are doing literally everything they can to fix this.

Smart on their part for a couple of reasons:

Worst case...they lose him, but show their fans (and other possible FA's) that they did everything they could to repair the relationship. It also provides them with a little bit more leverage to drive up the asking price when it comes to a possible trade. Especially if they can give the impression that Kawhi is thinking about staying.

Obviously, best case, they work things out with him and continue on as usual.

I think Leonard has to many people in his inner circle and they are not on the same page with him.

His uncle seems to be the issue. Apparently he's acting as Kawhi's agent and has some Lavar minus the twitter in him.

I really have no problem with someone taking a job in the town he wants to live in. He's got the skills and there's definitely going to be interest. Just keep it between yourself and the FO of the team you're currently playing for. This whole media drama isn't helping anybody out.

It's going to come out either way. No team trading for him is going to do so without discussing an extension. The media drama is only hurting the team he wants to leave.

It's damaging his image as well (last season's whatever he was going through didn't help that much either). But I guess that going into the season with an extension for the team you want to play for more than makes up for that.

Sure,

But what exactly has Kawhi said? I am not sure I have ever heard him speak actual words.

His people aren't even really saying much. Most of the media reports are second hand speculation.

True, but it's coming from somewhere. The injury obviously compounded everything. Kind of understandable when the guy's looking for a 9 figure contract and is coming off the worst injury of his career.

Exactly. All headlines. His reputation might be shot a little but it’s bc of all the talk. We haven’t heard one peep out of him directly, so I will believe it when I hear it. My perspective is he will be a Spur, kinda sketchy that there have been no comments from him

The only problem with all of this is the fact that we have yet to hear him say anything. My question is if there will be anyone out there who will want to take him on a one-year rental and take a chance on being able to see if they can get a good enough relationship with him in one year to convince him to re-sign. I don't know what the execs of the NBA are thinking, but my opinion would be that I doubt many teams would wanna take him if he is THIS adamant about signing with LA. Therefore, the Spurs have less leverage.

He's played with this team since 2011 and it really just doesn't seem like him to make a comment, but on this particular subject, we need to hear from him. All this media speculation is just making the Spurs look bad cause they can't get the guy to talk. I myself am sick of it. Even Duncan talked more than this.

I think he's trying to avoid talking about it completely, letting his representatives handle the media. That "leak" last Friday was clearly an intentional release to the media, as multiple sources got the news at the same time. He won't be able to duck the questions forever though, especially if this carries over into the preseason and regular season.

Agree. Everything we are hearing seems to be coming from folks around Kawhi rather than Kawhi himself.

Even the reports that he told Pop that he still wants out don't seem to include any direct quotes from him.

If we assume that what we are hearing is true, then I think it probably, at the least, rules out Boston and the Sixers. I don't see those teams wanting to give up what they have worked so hard to build for a likely 1 year rental.

What I could see though is some mid-level type playoff team taking a chance on bringing him in to try to get themselves over the top and hope they can win enough to get him to stay.

If it lasts into the regular season, I might die. Having this guy on our payroll right now and not being able to talk to free agents cause you don't know how much money you'll have cause of him is bad enough. Having him 100% and on the bench sulking just cause he doesn't wanna be there would fucking infuriate me.

If someone, ANYONE wants to take him off the Spurs hands (if these reports are true) then I'll be fine. If all of this is true and he wants out, I really don't want the Spurs to waste time trying to fix it. Get him away and move on.

Lonnie Walker was a nice draft pick for the Spurs where they got him.

Pelinka says teams have ‘natural envy’ of Lakers’ success

lol...boo fucking hooo....

Teams aren’t lining up the help the Los Angeles Lakers to construct a possible superteam, which is not surprising, according to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN.

For example, the Lakers, who strive to create enough salary-cap room to offer to max deals to players this summer and who are the preferred landing spot of Kawhi Leonard, were looking to deal for a pick early in the second round of the draft Thursday night.

However, Los Angeles could not find a willing trade partner.

“So it’s not like teams are saying, ‘Oh, I’m not going to do a deal with the Lakers,’” Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said. “But I do think when you have 16 banners, there’s going to be a natural envy from your competitors because you’re sitting at the top of the food chain, but that’s just life in general.”

That comes on the heels of a report that the Lakers contacted the San Antonio Spurs last week regarding Leonard’s availability, but the Spurs rebuffed the inquiry and “basically shut the door” on any discussions about a trade for Leonard, who is not happy with how the Spurs handled the situation around his right quadriceps injury last season. He will be an unrestricted free agent after next season.

All of which has Pelinka realizing the Lakers might have to turn their focus to 2019 if it cannot lure free-agent targets such as LeBron James and Paul George this summer.

“We do feel like the road is a flexible road for us; if July 1 happens with one or two superstar players, great,” Pelinka added. “If it doesn’t, we love this young core that we’re developing and we know 2019 could present some amazing opportunities as well.

“So really, any road we go down we’re really confident in, but obviously for Lakers fans we want to be good, we want to be back in the playoffs where Lakers deserve to be and competing for a championship.”

LA is Kawhi's preferred destination. They might not have the most valuable assets but they're willing to give more than anyone else, that's why their deal will be superior.
it just depends on how those assets are valued.

they might want a potential top 10 pick like the picks Celtics own from Sacramento/Memphis rather than Ingram or Ball.

We have no clue.

As i have said- i dont think that the Spurs will trade him in the West- and would even take a lesser package to ship him out East. I think that Pop and the organization have enough good will in the bank that they can make a trade for a "lesser" package (if it is even lesser) just to show that they will not be held hostage by a player they have taken from late lotto pick to top 10 in the game.

that and what Pop said to Aldridge last year--- hey- unless we can get Kevin Durant back for you or somethign similar- im your best friend and we are gonna get along.

Exactly and imagine what he would want for Kawhi? Even more. I doubt Ingram and Kuzma is going to thrill the Spurs. They would rather send him to the East, get a player that is still young and they know their potential and a bunch of 1st rounders. At least then you have choices but like you said it all depends on what they value. If they love Ingram or another player from a shit team they will make a trade if Kawhi wants out of SAS that bad

Kuzma was a nice player they took - and got great value out of him--- but Kyle Kuzma is not someone anyone gets excited about.

Hes a solid scoring Pf--- those grow on trees. And anyone can get numbers on a bad team playing 31 minutes a night.

dont get me wrong- he is a guy that has some talent- but hes not a deal breaker in any way shape or form from any teams side.

Ingram has the most trade value and he is still an intriguing prospect- but he only has 2 more years before he is an RFA and will be due for a big time payday.

@Mecca do you feel sorry for Pelinka and the Lakers? lol

GM: Lakers not expecting help from rivals

did you see him whining?

"waaaah no one wants to help us out with trades....waahh."

lol

The dude was not whining moron - the man was just saying that he doesn't expect any help from rivals - in short - that's the nature of the beast - No one the NBA helps their competitors
