Hanson (a hurt utility infielder) getting the start in the OF over Pence or Jax.

I have one word for you: veteran presence
Pence will walk (retire?) after this season and Jackson will after 2019. I don't think that they should wait that long but I really do think they will.

I'm still hoping Pence gets the Ichiro treatment. If HOFer Ichiro can do it why not Pence?

I still believe it is a different scenario. Ichiro was looking for work and the Mariners only came to him in spring training when they knew they'd be short a few outfielders. The playing time was temporary. I don't know how the conversation went when they signed him but I remember the reporters talking about the unknown of Ichiro's playing career when the outfielders got healthy.
Pence was looked at as the primary left fielder coming into this season. Rightly or wrongly, that is how they tabbed him. The FO's MO for guys like Pence is to play out the season with him either on the 25 or the dl. I really doubt that they change it but I'd love to be wrong.
