You could give Dez Antonio Brown’s legs and it wouldn’t change a thing.

I agree.

It ain't his age; it's his heart and his attitude that is his biggest opponent right now. He bought into the hype, which is the worst thing an athlete can do on the field.

I never begrudge a professional player, in any sport, to get the most amount of $$$ that teams will pay for him. That's the business side of the game. It's when they start allowing the hype to circumvent their drive to be worth the dollars that they start showing themselves not to be.

I couldn't stand Jerry Rice for many years, mostly because he played for the team that was a thorn in our sides. But there's one thing that could be said about him that I cannot question... He pushed himself to adapt his game to beat his age.

Sadly, not many do that any more. They get a few good years under their belt and think that it's all owed to them, the money as well as the honor.

I was glad to see Dez released. I just wish, for his own sake, that he would mature and realize that the reduction in his athletic ability needs to be overcome by a devotion to the craft that is required for an NFL receiver.

You have the gull to question Dez's heart?? I understand the reasons Dallas cut him, but heart and his work ethic were not any of them. I just wish people would stop beating this Dead Horse. Dez is gone, move on. Focus on this season coming up.

I still have some hope Gregory will reward Dallas for taking a chance. I'm not holding my breath on if he gets popped on weed again.
I hope so. I did want to cut him long ago because maybe if we started cutting guys after they do this stupid stuff it will stop other guys from doing it or at least make them think twice. Something needs to change with this team. But, we didn't and so I will root for him just like every other player and I do hope he can overcome his demons first and help the team second. I suspect that if he stayed in shape and gets reinstated he will make the team and hopefully even be a key player in pass rush packages. If not in shape he will likely not start the year on the 53. First step...Goodell...

I guess the teams fondness of Jarwin we heard about all offseason was legit
On the downside looks like the Rico experiment could be done. I hope he gets a shot during preseason games to get involved a little to see what he has

Blake Jarwin - TE - Cowboys
Cowboys reporter Marcus Mosher reports second-year UDFA Blake Jarwin worked as Dallas' No. 1 tight end during OTAs and minicamp.

According to Mosher, Rico Gathers "barely gets any snaps in practice." Gathers hasn't played a single snap since being drafted in 2016 but flashed big-time potential last preseason only for the Cowboys to ask him to bulk up and improve his blocking this year. It sounds like Jarwin is the preferred pass-catching option, with Gathers competing for snaps as an in-line blocker. Jarwin showed some Jacob Tamme-esque traits as a walk-on at Oklahoma State.

Allen Hurns - WR - Cowboys
Cowboys reporter Marcus Mosher reports Allen Hurns was the team's "clear-cut" No. 1 receiver throughout spring practices.

As expected. Hurns inked a two-year, $12 million pact after his release from Jacksonville, and the Cowboys then released Dez Bryant while failing to re-sign Brice Butler. It leaves Hurns as the default top wideout, followed by Cole Beasley, Terrance Williams, and rookie Michael Gallup in whichever order. In an offense that figures to lean on Ezekiel Elliott as much as Elliott's body will allow, maybe only one of these receivers will provide steady fantasy value.

While I get that reporters just relay info of what they see, but I question how much of the practices has he watched? If Jarwin is our number 1, WTH happened to Swaim? IMO - and I've watched plenty of these dudes both in college and preseasons - this is how I feel their talents match up:

Swaim is a better blocker than Jarwin and Rico, and on par with Shultz.
Jarwin is a better receiver than Swaim and Shultz, and slightly behind Rico.

So in shells Jarwin (more of a receiver) has been getting #1 reps. I am not sure how they are using Jarwin in practice, but OSU seemed to play him more as a move TE. Since it is being reported that Rico hasn't been on the field much, I have to assume he is working on his blocking technique with coaching staff. We have just as much invested in him as any of them at the moment, and to this point he's the only one able to impress me with anything he's put on film in a Cowboys uni. I wonder if his comment about staying healthy so he can be on "somebodys 53" ticked some people off. I also have a feeling that Rico is the kind of personality to get a big ego. So he may find himself in the doghouse. Not much else to do but to wait for camp to see how it plays out.

If you read the tea leaves, Rico seems to have almost no shot to make the roster unless we go 4 deep or someone else gets injured or suspended (hey it's the Cowboys). Simple fact is that if you don't know how to block, who to block or where you are supposed to be in a route or how to play special teams you aren't going to dress for the Cowboys as a TE. We have gone 4 deep before (started the year with 5 in 2016 or 2015). So how deep do we go at WR and RB? How deep do we go at DL? 3 QBs? It could be a numbers game for Rico. My guess is we go 4 deep at TE but who knows.

I saw that article too, but it isn't really a list of who the fastest Cowboys are. It's a list of who the players "think" is the fastest. It also gives a list of 40 times, but they are from various combines and may or may not still be accurate. Still an interesting read though

I can't speak on Jarwin, I don't know anything about him.

I'm slightly concerned with all the stories surfacing about Gathers, none of them seem to be complimentary. While I defer to the coaching staff, this organization's track record for developing TEs over the past decade or so is less than stellar, and with that in mind I just don't know what to think about Gathers at this time. While it was only preseason, Rico flashed some real potential in the receiving game last year. I can't help but feel like the coaches are being a little short sighted with this guy - so what if he can't block? - develop him as a receiving threat. We have carried 4 TEs in the past where the 4th TE was little better than an actual trash can, now when I read Cowboys related material the writers like to make it seem like the organization thinks it's too much of a burden to carry a 4th TE - and Rico actually has a skill set that can help the offense.

I'm just talking out of my ass here, but from outside looking in, the way the organization has handled Rico is puzzling to me. We keep hearing how Rico is a liability, but in the very limited action I saw of him on the field, Gathers looks like a difference maker. It would be a shame if our coaching staff lacked the creativity (shocker!) to draw that potential out of him.

I don't know why they can't put him in as a receiving TE and leave it at that. Teach him a few routs and let his hands do the talking.
