it just all comes down to LeBron---- i mean- who really cares about anything else--- i dont care about Kawhi and George--- even if both go to LA without LeBron the Lakers aren winning anything.

it all comes down to LeBron- i only care about those guys as they effect LeBron- because without those LeBron those guys still wont win dick.

:rolleyes2:

If George and Kawhi end up on the Lakers (without Lebron), they become a contender in the West.

yep. so LeClown is NOT as essential as some might think...

A contender, yes. They aren’t beating the W’s with two SF’s as good as they are bc in this scenario you are giving up players for Kawhi and only getting one bigtime FA. You do get to sign Randle but you are a giving up a combination of Ball, Ingram and Kuzma maybe all of them. They would have some flexibility.

Say they sign Randle to a 4 year 60 mil. 15/yr which is about right.
PG 30 mil
Trade for Kawhi 30M but they give up Kuzma, Ingram and Ball straight up for him.

They have about 89M in salaries unless they can somehow move that Deng contract. If they could they would have closer to 30M to try and sign maybe Cousins with this duo. So still a very good roster but with Lebron it would be Warriors and Lakers at the top, possibly making the Lakers better. This roster isnt beating GS imo

Some of this is right. They likely aren't taking down the Warriors with just PG and Kawhi. Especially since they have to trade for Kawhi and are likely losing Ingram and Kuzma at the minimum.

However, if they do that and re-sign Randle. It gives them options after next season. Deng will be a true expiring contract, so it should be much easier to move him. They would also be able to trade Randle if they needed to (although, they may have to renounce him if the Deng contract isn't part of the trade). This would give them the cap space to sign another max guy to add to Kawhi and PG.

So worst case, they have to wait another year to get that 3rd guy and it happens right about the time the Warriors may be having to make some tough choices financially.

Who do the Warriors cut loose next summer? They can't very well max out both Klay and Dray, after already maxing out Steph (and presumably Durant this summer); their tax bill will be humongous.

I have a feeling that Klay will be the determining factor in all this. If Klay wants a max, the Warriors I think would give it to him, and keep the core intact for one more year through Draymond's last year. If Draymond wants a max too, I think the Warriors would do it also, but then have to facilitate trades for both. The premise to keep the core intact was based on the players taking significant, but lower than max salaries. If both are intent on maxing out, there will be a certain point where the Warriors will have to draw the line.

That being said, with the new arena opening the Warriors CAN afford to pay the tax bill. It's just a matter if they want to. If they can get 90 cents on the dollar for those two guys, you'd have to explore it. I think that's why the Warriors are really emphasizing getting younger. They'll need a few players to exceed expectation to fill out a role, which would make it easier to let either of Klay or Draymond go.

I really think Klay and Draymond are a package deal. If even one makes a demand for a max, it makes the most sense to trade them both for another superstar player.

I think the defensive combo of George/Kawhi as opposed to Harden/Paul poises some additional concerns for Golden St.

What team is going to be able to take on $60M for the two of them?

It doesn't have to be to the same team....Package deal them, meaning that both have to go to get full value back on a return to the team.
