I don't doubt that is their plan.

But, I will say it again. How did those plans work for the Lakers when Buss was there?

Things may finally be different now for LA because Magic and Pelinka have demonstrated that they are capable of assembling quality pieces. I just don't think Brooklyn has done that yet.

It's not a huge leap to assume it since

1-Irving is from NJ.

2-He's good friends with Butler and they want to play together.

Irving and Butler plus the other youngsters they have there would be very interesting. And they'd add some vets for the bench of course.

Well,

Recent history has told us that bad teams with cap space tend to strike out in free agency.

Is it possible Brooklyn changes that? I guess so, but it isn't very likely.

Yeah, it's crazy to think Irving and Butler would want to play in NY.

1-They are friends and they could help restore the Nets and get them back to being relevant

2-NY. Nightlife and ladies. Live the dream in one of the best states in the USA to live in.

Marks might have been a scrub as a player but he's an up and coming GM. Read a couple articles on him.

He has a lot. Not sure how many are pregnant currently. But, he had 8 with 8 and another was pregnant.

Really nice people don't conduct themselves like that.
About ten years ago I gave the lil lady my blessing to get knocked up by Dwight Howard.

I'd raise it as my own. And hopefully retire early.

Woulda been a no on Greg Oden. If I'm gonna raise an NBAers bastard son, it's gonna be a handsome NBAer.

Jus sayin...

Dwights a handsome man.

What act does Howard do? Is it because he’s always smiling and having a good time? That just seems like his genuine personality.

Honestly he seems like a really nice person.

That's actually a big part of his problem. He is too much about having fun and not nearly enough about winning.

It's why he has been in the league for what? 13 years?

and has made zero significant improvement to his game. Do you know how difficult it is to do that?

He's been in the league 13 years and hasn't even managed to develop a "go to" move.

It was a poorly run organization. Don't think you can find a single person in the league who thinks Marks is doing a bad job. He was just dealt a shitty situation and doing everything he can to fix it

Yep. Difficult as it may be to believe, he was handed an even worse situation than Magic and Pelinka.

You keep saying that. Basically, avoiding the question.

So, it's your opinion that men that have 8-plus kids with 8 different women are really nice people?

Well, seems safe to say that he's at least been nice to 8 women? :noidea:

But, why have they sucked for so long?

They haven't been tanking. They have just made horrendously bad draft picks (Kings) and terrible trades giving away assets (Nets).

I said this earlier, but these teams shouldn't let their past rule their future. The Sixers were brilliant because their first few picks didn't hit and they waited patiently until they got a couple that did. You won't always land a Ben Simmons type player going that route, but trying and missing is better than building around 30 year old fringe allstars like Kemba Walker if you are the unlucky team to win the bidding war for him.

Past mistakes are sunk costs. No matter what moves you make, you can't change those failures. Trying to marginally improve a 30 win roster only gets you an express ticket to NBA purgatory.

Right now, the Nets finally have a chance to bottom out and really rebuild. They don't appear interested in doing that.

They've sucked for so long because their previous management absolutely wrecked them for most of the decade. They were saddled with no draft picks and no cap room. There was basically no way for them to get better. Since the new group has come in within the last year, they've had to make moves that deal with those ramifications. These aren't just sunk costs that are gone. These are decisions that have very real consequences both from a basketball standpoint and a business standpoint. Billy King left them with a massive anchor around their feet. You can't keep looking at this as purely a basketball decision which I think is where your disconnect is. It's not just a matter of tanking, finding your star, and building a winning roster from there. It's basketball and business decisions, restoring some faith and goodwill in the organization among the fans and potential future players that the Nets can be respectable and worthwhile. If they start tanking now after spending basically the last 8 years of being terrible, you'll be a looking 10+ years of bad teams before any kind of "process" is complete (and that's making the assumption they actually draft a star, which is no guarantee). That level of ineptness has big impacts of a franchise's moneyline when it comes to fan ticket sales, sponsors, etc. But if they could get to like a lower tier playoff team even for a 2 to 3 year stretch and then tank if need be, that goes a long way getting that goodwill back that's needed on the business end.

Marks is doing a pretty good job all things considered. He's found ways to get out of that cap hell, draw some interest in the team, and more despite having almost no cards to play with. They have a direction and a plan. If you want to talk a team with no plan, pick someone like the Magic that have stunk with draft picks and seemingly have no rhyme or reason to their roster construction or coaching decisions. But these new Nets aren't that.

This is probably one we should have seen coming. Howard and Kupchak would have been an awkward relationship considering Dwight left him as a free agent when Mitch was with the Lakers.

Jimmy Butler is about winning. I honestly am not sure what Kyrie is about.

But, the Kyrie to NY rumors are way overblown, IMO. He never said he wouldn't resign in Boston. What he said was that he wouldn't sign an extension this summer because it does not make sense for him to do so financially.

We will see.

If these 2 sign in Brooklyn I will admit I was wrong. But like I said, it ain't happening.

How many of those players are free agents when they have all of that cap space?

Looked it up, here's who's under contract for the Nets next summer:

Allen Crabbe $18.5M (player option, and he won't get that much elsewhere)
Caris Levert $2.6M (team option)
Jarrett Allen $2.4M (team option)
Isaiah Whitehead $1.7M (not guaranteed)
Deron Williams $5.5M (dead cap)
(cap holds for any empty roster spots up to 12)

They could be down to just empty roster cap holds and Deron's dead money if Crabbe opts out. Levert and Allen are cheap keeps, though.
