No matter how many times trump lies and says its the law, there is audio of White house reps saying they are making a policy choice here.

Yeah, it is ransom and the kids caught up in this are essentially hostages. Where does basic humanity factor into the equation though, you know Trump has no empathy for these asylum seekers, somebody has to step up and show some leadership because there currently is none in the Oval Office.

Yes, they're being held ransom. So are children. The ruling party isn't likely to back down without some sort of "win". What's more important right now?

It's also worth mentioning that this "strategy" began, even if with a more limited scope, under Barack Obama. If the Democrats stay partisan over this I have little reason to distinguish them from Trump. They're all complicit and they're all sick.

Thus the "under a more limited scope" part.

Anything Obama used his executive power in a way no president had before on, Trump has taken it and ran with it. His nearsightedness on how much a president can do without congress had a huge say on how Trump has run his administration.

I mean, we could just pretend that the President and his allies in congress may one day do so and keep waiting for that day while a generation of children rot in cages.

Or the party that keeps saying this is inhumane can just suck it up and do something.

Seriously, is the hangup here holding out hope that the guy who caused all of this and is keeping it up in the face of widespread opposition might change his mind? When in his presidency has he backed down from something like this? He fought tooth and nail for the banning of entry from certain countries all the way to SCOTUS, he hasn't relented on tariffs, on NAFTA, on not repudiating the racists and shitstains who support him, fuck he roasts his own AG on a weekly basis just for the hell of it despite the fact he can replace him at any time. The guy isn't going to change this.

The only reason Dems don't want to is because the Republicans can campaign this fall on winning an immigration bill. I guess the Dems feel they can't campaign on saving children. There's literally nothing more to this.

As BBB said above, give Trump his freaking border wall already - Also, if the Democrats are smart, they should be piecing together the audio of those kids crying along with video images of Trump raising his fist in victory as campaign ads for the upcoming midterm elections.

Shocking how low the bar is for the President. That he and his party should be given a "win" in order to resolve this. Maybe, he should go and hold a gun to the head of one of these young girls that was shipped to NYC and shuffled through the streets overnight... maybe on 5th avenue. Hope the Dems placate the demogogue.

hate that people would see the solution to this as more political strategizing and not falling back to ideals of basic humanity

At this point, I think our best hope is that Cohen knows where all the bodies are buried and is willing to make a deal and gives Mueller all the details he needs as far as Russian collusion and obstruction of justice is concerned.

Avenatti is now representing some of the families who have been separated / deported and not reunited with their children ... maybe the courts will act quicker on this
