It’s still pretty early in the recruiting cycle @Cowboyinexile

At least that’s hat I keep telling myself about our class.

We picked up a pretty solid 3* today. Offensive Lineman from Texas with a dozen P5 offers. I'd say us, LSU, and UCLA are the best ones and it is really nice to have someone in our punching range.

I don't mind taking a few camp kids but ideally the bulk of our classes are people we beat out Arky, TCU, and the random offer from Oregon or Nebraska. Plus a couple of high 4* kids who for whatever reason think OSU is a better place than tOSU. Say 3-4 4* with a 5* every few years, 14 or so solid 3*and a half dozen where we are clearly the best offer. That isn't a top 5 class but it's probably a top 20 class. We evaluate better than anyone (if you dont believe me look at our results versus our recruiting rankings) so a top 20 class for us probably ends up playing like a top 10 class. Get a few of those and maybe we raise our ceiling.

recruiting is the thing that goes first with a coach that is burned out.

That is a legit concern. That and Gundys ego. He has generational money now and has been grinding for close to 20 years. No matter what he does here on out he goes down as a badass in his neck of the woods and gets $15 mil or so at a minimum. The minute he got called out he offered a kid whose previous best offer was Dartmouth.

So he gives no fucks, picked some random guy to run his offense who ended up being really good at it and now he's thinking my boss is an asshole so I'm going to show him by taking any random 18 year old and turning them into someone who will finally beat Jonny 5* at the school down the street. If it doesn't work, fuck it my play action game won Barry Sanders the Heisman and I taught both Justin Blackmon and Justin Timberlake everything they know.

You jest sir, but I gotta admit there is a part of me that hopes Justin Fuente is still hungry in 3 years and really really hates how his time in Norman went. This may not end well.

That has to be one of the harder P5 schools to recruit at

Michigan State is doing a great job of handcuffing Dantonio by refusing to spend any money on coaches.
Sparty's got to spend it on lawyers now.

There is a school of thought that blames Texas for some of OSU’s lack in recruiting. I mean if Texas was what Texas SHOULD be then some of them “jilted” Texas HS kids (that OU overlooked too) would want some payback against the empire and head on up to Stillwater would they not?

Okie Lite has to compete with TCU, Baylor and Tech for the ones jilted by Texas, A&M and OU. Then there are the pesky Houston/SMU types that snatch a few. I wish my Miners were in that group...but we only get crumbs.
We ain't had a decent recruiting class in eons. :gaah:

Hey they had Barry Sanders. Goat.
They also had Dexter Manley (literacy not required for degree)

Those two selling points alone should land them top recruits.

Holder is a dumdass. Gundy has given OkieLite the best 10+ run in Okielite history.

DFW and surrounding area, was pretty much controlled by OU, with OSU, getting some decent players. Then TCU came to the BigXII and Baylor getting better, it hurt both but OkieLite, worse. A lot of the 3-4 star guys, they now have to compete with OU, TCU and Baylor, plus Texass and aTm. Tulsa is there only semi strong area, OSU has a good foot print. OU has taken over Kansas, for the better part of 15 years, excluding the Brown Brothers but that was Bob Stoops refusing to work with their "street agent". East Texas, is once again a Big OU and aTm, strong hold, but Baylor and TCU have made serious, runs. West, central, and south Texas, UT has controlled for years. With some competition with aTm. Houston OU use to get great recruits but for some reason Bob Stoops quit, actively recruiting. OU has over 15 X football players that are Head Coaches in the Houston area and should dominate like it use to. But aTm, LSU and UT have controlled that market for 10 years.

So 80% of the Top Oklahoma and Kansas players, go to OU. Most highly recruited DFW, East TX, pick OU or aTm and some Texass, with OSU having to fight TCU and Baylor. It's tough to beat, tradition and decades old relationships with HS.

Holder needs a dose of football recruiting reality. He comes from the collegiate golf world. In that world, OSU is one of the biggest dogs and the elite golfers want to go there. Elite football players want to go to Ohio State, Bama, Texas, OU, USC, etc not schools like Okie Lite. Okie Lite ain't a destination place for football players like it is golfers.

Nothing wrong with that at all. Those are definitely solid classes and something we used to get every now and then, especially with us recruiting Florida then. We seem to not be doing that as much (florida) now that we lost one of our coaches. (Seider)

I think you guys evaluate damn good. Especially on offense. But if you are trying to say you are head and shoulders better than anyone when teams like Northwestern and Michigan St still do well throughout the year with not highly ranked classes I just don’t believe it.

I figure he's getting heat and just doesn't know how to handle it.
I'd say that Oklahoma State is consistently better now than ever in the past.

I'd say that's a good step in the right direction, not sure what the AD wants.
