I'm such a bad hockey man.

/Is this a new thing for the Sens tho?

-Got Celine from the Leafs
-Gave Lehner to Buffalo
-Got toasted by Doug Wilson so they wouldn't help Florida by sending them an asset so toxic Superfund doesn't want anything to do with him?

That's weird.

It doesn’t make as much sense these days either. First of all, divisions are much bigger, so you’re locking out a quarter of teams. Secondly, the bigger divisions mean you face teams fewer times, especially since now teams play everyone at least twice. And finally, in this case, it’s not like Florida is going to be competing any time soon...or Ottawa at this rate. So you weakened yourself to spite an in division team, when it’s not likely Hoffman is a difference maker for them playoff wise, and it backfired anyway. As a side note, I love that Wilson did this. I often feel like NHL GMs are too timid with this stuff, too worried about upsetting another GM. No...find the bad GMs and call them every day. Dog eat dog. Dorian just cut off his nose to spite his face.

How bout the pans trading for Erik Karlsson ??? lol

Wrong vowel there (I kid...I mean, I want, but I kid). All the smoke seems to be in Vegas, which it was at the deadline too. Vegas has a treasure trove of picks, although not a lot of prospects obviously. They’re in a super intriguing place. Got space to do a lot. Plenty of room to improve. And they can get rid of James Neal so I can like them.

Let’s just recap what these guys, who make a lot of fucking money for their “scoops”, have not even sniffed before it happened just in the past week:

-the Hoffman/Karlsson/Sens soap opera (which goes back literally the entire season)

-Domi for Galchenyuk

-Trotz leaving the Caps

-Hoffman being traded this morning

-Hoffman being traded again this morning

I figured a lot of their “scoops” came from GM’s throwing out names of players they want to gauge interest in but given what we know about internal NHL networking these days (including the fact that there is indeed a computer network that GMs use for trades and to notify their colleagues of players that are “on the block”) I guess that well is almost completely dry and what we’re left with are some higher-paid Eklunds.

I had kevin woodley, ray ferraro and chris johnston saying during the vegas series that it was likely trotz would be leaving the caps :noidea:

Very true and yet how many of those guys would you consider (or would consider themselves) "insiders"? Johnston, if even him?

/Worth mentioning they were all wrong about his contract expiring, though.

The Trotz one was discussed during the final. I know Johnston even mentioned the Islanders at that point, which seems to be a real possibility with Trotz in Newark. But I agree with you, seems a lot of the insiders aren’t given the info they once were with some exception. I’ve reallt only ever trusted Bob, and hes not a guy to throw out a bunch of stuff and hope it sticks. Bob is basically a “here’s what’s about to happen” guy like an hour before it breaks, and occasional alluding to possible smoke.

The contract did expire but true they didnt know/mention about the 2 year extension clause if he won the stanley cup.

I think woodley was most adamant that trotz felt slighted by no new extension at the start of the year and would therefore be leaving

Mitch Korn, caps goalie coach, also good friend of in goal magazine and woodley :noidea:

NON INSIDER !!!!

If the two-time Norris Trophy-winning Karlsson is on the move he would represent the most impactful player traded in his prime since Jaromir Jagr back in 2001.

Let's remember some guys shall we:

Joe Thornton
Marian Hossa
Dany Heatley
Ilya Kovalchuk
Tyler Seguin
Taylor Hall
PK Subban

I'm sure I'm missing a bunch but, hyperbole much?

Weird how this is not being reported anywhere else. Maybe twatwaffle gave him the scoop?

His english isn't good, maybe he said he doesn't want to think about it yet.

See, this is what I'm here for.

Panarin-Tavares-Marner. Oh baby.

No, no, no. It would cost you Marner to get him.

And Mathews.

PS - Twatwaffle is also saying Ian Cole wants 5x5 contract or he's leaving.

Think it’s worth mentioning that SJ probably got a better return from Florida even in a strictly hockey sense than Ottawa got from them so why didn’t the Sens just trade Hoffman to Florida in the first place lol

Umm. While the return is weak this isn't even close to true.

28 year old 0.5 PPG players hold a whole lot more value than a 2nd round pick. The 4th and 5th have almost no value. I know that everyone on the interwebs loves draft picks, but a 2nd round pick has less than a 50% chance of ever being a full time NHLer. Mikkel Boedker is worth way more than that. Hell, Ottawa got a 2nd round pick back (from 2014) who has few years of development under his belt.

The return sucks but San Jose didn't really get anything of real value here.

Since Dorion seems adverse to trading within his division all the sudden I guess this would never happen but the Sens are pretty well fucked for next year and could very well wind up giving the Avs a lottery pick thanks to the disastrous Iran de…I mean Duchene deal.

So why not dangle Duchene to the Habs for #3 this year, give the Avs #4 and keep next year’s almost certain good pick? That solves, like, 4 problems for 3 teams.

Cap space is a hockey asset.

SJ got the cap space to add + that 2nd for an asset they had no interest in keeping around.

Ottawa gets a guy who hasn't topped 40 pts since 2014, joining a moribund team whose current roster goal is to meet the cap floor. They could've moved him to Florida, gotten the cap space and used it for other teams to park their bad contracts. The salary wouldn't have mattered because instead of going from Hoffman's to Boedker's they'd be going from Hoffman's to whatever the next move is.

Or, to put it simply:
