3rd in the league in runs and 2nd in wRC+ = "not enough offense"

If Stanton, Sanchez, Bird continue to provide little

If Judge continues to be an only home hitter, if Didi continues to run hot and cold, if Gleyber and Andujar hit the expected rookie landmines

The Bullpen is the reason they are where they are, they have been scraping by with 4-3 wins for a few weeks now

I just don't see the point in the Mets trading deGrom. I think the Mets are certainly capable of fielding a competitive team in 2019, so why trade one of the best pitchers in the league? It's not like he's going to be a free agent at the end of the season.

They were talking about it on WFAN this morning.

They said why trade DeGrom? Seems like they think it makes more sense to trade Syndergaard & Familia and leave DeGrom

Probably taking the temperature of that division. The Nats even without Harper are a clear big notch above, everyone sees where the Braves are heading, Phillies are solid and apparently in big spend mode now

Mets are bare in the minors, and the biggest De Grom issue is that the Mets will never pay the required what? 180-200 mill to retain him, so it's a big roll of the dice holding onto him and hoping you can keep pace with these 3 other teams, while not spending or developing anything significant

I wouldn't trade him either.

Matt Chapman 12th?

I dropped that stiff

A 122 wRC+ is pretty damn good, especially for a 3rd baseman. And Chapman's probably the best defensive 3rd baseman in baseball right now.

He was hitting well before hitting the DL (.368/.489/.553 over last 12 games)

Def streaky, got frustrated by those 1-12 weekends, not enough good to offset those stretches

Mets should call the Astros and ask for Whitley and Tucker for De Grom

Imagine that

Cashman already said Torres is going nowhere so as @navamind said, it would be stupid from both sides.

Yanks don't even need DeGrom. They more need another #2 type starter to help in October We have our ace.

Having 3 guys who can go out there and throw 7 or 8 innings and only allow 1 or 2 runs is important in October.

Right now we only have 2 of those guys

It was basically a hypothetical they weren’t actually saying it was discussed. Sutcliffe and play by play said deGrom while Ross said Torres even tho he admitted deGrom makes them better. I think he liked Torres for the long haul(did a horrible job of explaining tho).

It was a interesting debate.

I will say tho, not sure the yanks have 2 guys that can definitely go 7. I’m assuming you are counting Tanaka but he’s so damn inconsistent even if last October he was great.

I'm a big proponent of Brad Hand or Zach Britton

Asking less from starters and leaning on an impenetrable bullpen is a great recipe for October success

(Not suggesting having 5 Verlanders will hurt you)

I think Hand is jewel of the market. It’s just a matter of if anyone will meet the Padres demands.

Almost all the contenders badly need another bullpen arm aside from the yanks. But even the yanks could use another lefty option and it would block Houston(who I think needs to make a strong push for a Hand type).

I was thrilled to see Herrera go to the Nats, both the Astros and Sox had to be all over that
