And? The Lakers fanbase was pissed when they traded Shaq and that wasn't even to a rival.

But the Lakers did the trade anyway because it needed to happen.

Of course the fans will pissed, but they aren't going anywhere and they'll forget all about it once the Spurs start winning again.

Just like Lakers fans forgot all about Shaq when they were winning back to back titles a few years later.

It was understandable why the Lakers traded Shaq. At that point, they had to chose between Kobe and Shaq since the two couldn't get along anymore.

The value that the Spurs are going to get for Kawhi at best is Ball (whom his issues are well documented in terms of distraction), Kuzma and Ingram. Ingram looks like he could be an all star, Kuzma a decent player in the NBA. I'm sorry, but for the 3rd best player in the league being traded to your rival - that's shit.

the BIGGEST STORY is if LEBron goes to LA. Thats one of the reasons why i think there is a significant chance he goes there. Nothing else would dominate the headlines like LBJ going there. It would not be big news if he decides to stay in Cleveland. LeBron going to LA would put him at the forefront of the NBA once again. Its one reason why i think that Cleveland and LA are the most likely destinations with LA creeping out ahead even right now.

You really believe he stays in shithole Cleveland when there's no chance in hell of them winning a title over there?

I'd say it's better than what the Lakers got for Shaq. Plus, they'll get picks as well.

As of now, I still have staying in Cleveland slightly ahead of going to the Lakers.

It's tough to call because for every report one way, there seems to be another that contradicts it.

I've read that his wife doesn't want to move the kids again.

I've read that his family loves it in LA.

We know he's not going to the Lakers by himself.

I heard one reporter on a talk show say that Paul George is absolutely coming to the Lakers, no question.

Then the very next reporter interviewed on the same show, said George is leaning toward staying in OKC.

Then there's been the talk of Lebron bringing CP3 to the Lakers with him.

Will Kawhi try to force his way to the Lakers by saying he won't re-sign anywhere else? Or are the Lakers just his preferred destination, not the only team he'd re-sign with?

Damn...all that makes my head hurt. lol

In other words, maybe it's fun for us all to try to figure out what's gonna happen so we can say 'see I was right!' but really no one knows and who really cares? What will be will be, no reward for guessing right. Let it play out.

I can pretty much guarantee you Kawhi Leonard wont be a Laker.

LeBron- who knows- he very well might be. But there is practically zero chance Kawhi will be a Laker.

Shaq was 32 years old and his play started to decline in his last season in LA. Kawhi Leonard is 26 years old and just now entering his prime (although coming off a seemingly major injury). So the two comparably aren't containing the same value.

That's the thing that keeps getting overlooked by some. In the end, it's up to Popovich if he wants to trade Kawhi to the Lakers. By public perception, it looks like he's willing to send him out East rather than create another super power in the West alongside Houston and Golden State. Additionally, and if I'm the Spurs, if you want to force my hand and really want to be in LA; I'll let you (Kawhi) figure it out. If the Lakers do sign George and Lebron to max deals this offseason, they're going to have to get real creative trying to fit Kawhi into the cap; which if I'm understood would be damn near impossible.

Unless there is a scenario where another team trades for Kawhi, then flips him to LA for goodies.....
Highly unlikely, but possible.

thats very true...I was going to mention Rondo as well for an example of a guard that struggled with free throw shooting.

the one big difference between Rondo and Ball is that- Rondo had a high shooting percentage from the floor most of his career since he was a very good athlete that was great at finishing at the rim. Ball not so much.

Ball's closest comps are guys like Rondo and Rubio in some/most ways.

I think it is possible that Pop would take less from an Eastern team to keep Kawhi out of the West even if Kawhi will ultimately wind up going to the Lakers.

Oh, I completely agree. Now, if an eastern conference team that gets Kawhi trades him later on to the Lakers, Pop would have to live with it. But he's not going to do it himself.

I still think I'm leaning towards Kawhi signing a supermax before FA starts. Maybe not a full 5 year deal. But perhaps enough to bridge to his 10 year season.

Yeah, to me Lonzo basically has a choice to make.

He can let his shot be his shot and be a Rondo/Rubio type of point guard where he's considered a good to very good starting point guard, but not great. Certainly not up to the level of where he was drafted.

Or, he can work on his shot, even if it ultimately means having to completely rework his mechanics, and be a great point guard.

Entirely up to him.

His court vision and passing skills are elite level and his defense was much better than expected. But his shooting is so bad that it takes away from his other skills in a big way.

I wouldn't mind if the Celtics get Kawhi for a 1 year rental. The Spurs can have Mr. Flat Earth, Hayward, some draft picks & an autographed Greg Kite jersey. But after Boston beats G.S. in 3 he'll want to stick around & raise more banners in the Garden.

Yeah, the only way that I can see the Spurs directly trading Kawhi to the Lakers is if Kawhi drives his trade value with other teams down to the point that taking another deal just to keep him from the Lakers would look stupid.

Even then, they might try to involve a 3rd team so that it doesn't entirely look like they traded him to the Lakers. lol
