All you need to know about the Sporting News rankings:

#9 Dallas Cowboys(1993)
Record: 12-4
PPG: 23.5
PPGA: 14.3
Difference: 9.2 PPG

#31 Philadelphia Eagles
Record: 13-3
PPG: 28.6
PPGA: 18.6
Difference: 10 PPG

Doesn't make much sense to me.
yeah...cause difference in PPG is all that matters. I guess that makes the 2015 better Carolina Panthers better than the 2017 Eagles?

 we aren't one of the 10 worst!

That I agree with as well. The Eagles last year were a good team. Won the NFC with the best record, won the SB.

I just don't think they are one of the greatest teams of all time.

So saying Dak did not handle him becoming the center piece of the offense due to Elliot being out, and an O-line being only above average rather than top of the league is me being a homer. Even though that is exactly what happened.

No, you are a homer because you dismiss what Dak did because of the team around him. Then you praise what Foles did despite the team around him.

The Eagles won home field throughout without Foles, so Foles continuing to win while under center doesn't prove anything.

I'd rather be one of the 10 worst teams to win the SB than any other team in those seasons.

Dallas fans can keep making excuses though. Maybe their great grandkids will see a ring.

I've seen three of them. It was your great-grandparents that were eagles fans saying "maybe our great grandkids will see one".

I'm not saying it is, just was curious why a team with a worse record and worse PPG differential is that many spots higher. And didn't have as difficult a path in the playoffs.

And had Carolina won it that year, they would be absolutely better than this Eagles team.

To be considered an all time great team they’d have to win another SB in the next year or too... usually.
The 85 Bears never got another one but usually that’s the standard.

This “over achieved” nonsense is for the 9-7 Giants... not a team that dominated from September to February

I've admitted to overstepping my initial statement. I'd be fine with them be ranked anywhere from 10-15 .

First off, historically speaking, the Eagles had a pretty darn easy path to the SB last year. Who did they beat? An Atlanta team that snuck in to the playoffs week 17 with a 10-6 record and a Minnesota team with Case Keenum as their QB? Part of the reason the Eagles are absolutely not considered anywhere near an All Time great team is based on who was in the NFC last year. Heck, the Dallas team you guys want to say is horrendous was only a game out of the playoffs.

Secondly the Cowboys had 3 HOFers (4 if you count Jerry, but I don't). Let's see what you end up with

Lastly, I think most people who watch Football knew that Car team was just not very good and the record was a fluke

If the Eagles win again this year or next year I'll absolutely put them in that category and they are of course deservedly one of the favorites so it could happen. But that is a different discussion.

Or you can look at it that they had beat the two teams that played in the SB the year before and beat a 13 win team to even get to the SB. There aren't many teams that had to beat a 13 win team to make a SB, then follow that up by beating another 13 win team to win the SB. If it's happened more than 10 times I'd be surprised.

possible, but surprising.

It's something crazy like 30% of the teams that make the playoffs one year miss it the next.

parity en sech, I guess.

It's hard to judge them because they were two different teams at least in the regular season after Wentz was hurt. With Wentz they averaged 31.1 PPG, which would rank 5th among all SB winning teams. With Wentz they had a PPG differential that ranked 15th in the league. And there were many occasions where they have up garbage points late in games. But that may have happened with other SB champs during the season too so I won't use that as an excuse as to why their PPG differential isn't better.

As for the playoff run, they are one of only a handful of teams to beat two teams with 13 or more wins during the regular season.

The more I think about it they probably deserve to be somewhere between 10-15.
Their 2017 SOS was 27th out of 32 teams, come on man.
