So you only get your jersey retired bc you win a title?? LOL that is news to me

So tell me, what historic things did Durant do for the Thunder, other than bolt as soon as he had the chance?

Heck, Derek Fisher did more for the Lakers than Durant did for OKC.

No, he didn't.

Derek Fisher was a role player on a bunch of championship teams. He didn't accomplish anywhere near as much individually.

He was the starting PG for 5 championship teams. His 0.4 shot all but ensured the Lakers made the finals again.

And again, this isn't about individual accomplishments.

Then you should tell the Lakers to unretire Elgin Baylor's number. Dude never won a championship for them. What a loser.

LOL. At least know the history of your own damn team before you spout nonsense.

So in summation, according to @Shaqdaddy11:

Derek Fisher deserves to have his jersey retired over a player like Elgin Baylor.

Reasoning behind it is because one was a role player on a championship team, versus another player who was individually only one of the greatest basketball players to ever live. Because personal achievements do not matter.

Yes it is.

Individual accomplishment is precisely what jersey retirement is about.

If the Lakers retired the jersey # of every role player who won multiple titles they wouldn't have any number options left.

Fucking hell you're cranky today.

Are you seriously comparing a HOF player who spent his entire career with the same team and made it to the Finals eight times to KD's OKC tenure?

Damn, didn't think you were that ignorant but there you go.

So you think OKC should retire #35 too then?

Refer to my first post.

KD defintely accomplished enough. He was an MVP for Christ sake. But, the fans hate him. Unless that changes, my answer is no because jersey retirement is for the fans to celebrate the player's accomplishments while wearing the team's uniform.

Right now, KD's ring hollow for OKC fans.

MVP, All-Star appearances and a Gold Medal are all personal accomplishments.

Seriously?!?

How about.... winning a title?

And again, this isn't about individual accomplishments.

Changing your narrative mid-way? Doesn't surprise me.

Last time I checked the HOF awards are based off of individual play. You think Derek Fisher is going to be a hall of famer? Steve Kerr? Robert Horry?

KD is clearly going to be in the HOF after his career is over. Not even debate-able.

So now that your winning narrative is defeated, you're changing it to HOF player. Well KD is going to be a HOF. Now you change it to played with only one team.

LOL, try to keep it together.

So that's a yes then. You're actually comparing Elgins career with the Lakers to Durants with the Thunder.

Wow

THIS. Being deserving and actually being retired are completely separate issues. KD on merit is absolutely deserving. But as many have indicated he likely won't be, because of fan perception, which is a shame.

But arguing KD's merits don't make him worthy is just stupid. If KD just decided to retire 2 years ago instead of leaving, he'd have his jersey already retired by now.

They could always go into triple digits.
