I agree... Especially with the depth we have that position now... It would be different if D. Brown was holding out, because our depth is horrible on the OL but Thomas doesn't have that much leverage... There are 2 guys chomping at the bit to replace him...

Depth? Our depth at the safety position was Bradley McDougal, who's now the starter at SS due to Chancellor being injured. We are talking about a top 5 safety, and people are ok with Maurice Alexander as our back up plan? Tedric Thompson? Delano Hill? No safety on the team has the ability and experience of Earl Thomas. He's still the second best player on the defense, hands down.

Well my take on the upcoming season is this are we super bowl contenders? probably not so why not take this season to evaluate the young talent that we have on the roster. Earl thomas is probably the 2nd best player on defense on this team and no none of the depth we have is anywhere close to him. It seems like we are moving in a direction of giving the offense more of a focus making sure the run game is great again and giving the defense to bobby wagner and developing new culture and a 30 year old thomas doesnt seem to fit that mold.

If this was 3 years ago where we know we are in the running to win the super bowl I would be a little on edge

No trade. That would have been done before the draft. He's part of the 2018 squad.

Just because he's "on the roster" doesn't mean he'll play. Would he really risk losing all those game checks? I don't think he's that stupid.

Well, one major difference between this situation and Kam's is that Thomas isn't 3 years from the end of his deal. He's actually right where the front office says they negotiate contract extensions - with one year left. So, he's not following the Kam Chancellor "blueprint".

Thomas is still one of the best safeties in the game, I'd be surprised if he didn't hold out going into the final year of his contract.
Acknowledged -- Kam's contract situation was different, and he made a really self-damaging dumb move.

Who in the PC/JS era has held out and got a new contract offer by the team to resolve it? Would also be interesting to go back and dig up some of the critical things ET said about Kam a few years back when he held out.

Yeah the way the hawks always say " We reward players when they have 1 year left"...
Who are you quoting? I don't think anyone who has any type of contract authority with the Seahawks has ever made such a statement. I would be well entertained to be proven wrong here, but I think you're just making this up.

Last year we drafted 2 Safeties in the 3rd and 4th round... I believe we did so in preparation of this moment... Of course, they're not going to be Earl Thomas but it doesn't mean they aren't bad options behind him... They could turn out to be solid players... And Kam didn't really play much last year either...

Yeah the way the hawks always say " We reward players when they have 1 year left" They have really not rewarded Earl so they have not practiced what they preach so if i was Thomas i would skip Out also. He deserves a contract. I get the Hawks thinking also. They could get him for this year and Franchise him if they need to the following year. I think we see things start playing out differently now as the Hawks start retooling the roster. Retool/rebuild call it what you want but they are trying to get younger around Wagner and Wilson.
That might apply to core players coming off their rookie contract but in no way applies to the 3rd contract. We felt the burn from MB's and Kam's 3rd contract, Avril's not so much.

I like what I've seen out of Shaq Griffin. He's gonna be something special for years to come.

I'm sure the Seahawks would love to have him resign, but can't risk guaranteeing a large contract when Thomas is 29. They can let him play out his contract, then let him test the market. He may find that the $ he wants isn't out there, or maybe someone antes up IDK.

heh.

Julio Jones notified Falcons he won't be attending mandatory camp. He's got THREE years left on his deal.

I can't be bothered to check and see if hoop's ATL fans are as triggered by Julio as SEA fans are by Earl.
Triggered ? Nobody is triggered as far as I've noticed. Does give us something to talk about.

Not even the Cowboys would give Earl Thomas the money he wants. Watch him go to New England once he becomes a free agent next offseason LOL.

They wouldn't even offer a 1st round draft pick for him... I believe they withdrew their 2nd round draft pick proposal as well...

Speaking of him, I was strolling by the C-link yesterday on my way to the Ms game, and I noticed on the side of the exhibition center they have the new player billboards up. Shaq made the cut already. ET and Kam taken off. Jarran Reed added.

Yeah, I don't know when it happened, but it seems we're now in this place as a society where if I disagree with something then it means I'm "triggered" or "outraged." I think it's a way of turning the problem back on me for having an issue with it, like a cousin to an ad hominem.

We're bringing in a new wave of talent. I'm not at all surprised that they took Thomas and Chancellor off the billboards. Sign (no pun intended) of things to come for the future of this team.

No he won't risk his game checks which is why he'll play come week 1.

I heard a third and that's it from Dallas. I'm sure there were other teams calling but obvious not enough. Plus not sure how serious the FO wanted to trade ET since they were looking for a first and third.

Maybe he'll have a change of heart and want to finish his career here.
