Essentially, the Pac-12 won't get poached because it doesn't make good economic sense to do so. Ditto for the Pac grabbing anyone from the Central Time Zone. The best thing for the Pac to do would be to ditch their under-performing but grossly-overpaid commissioner and hire someone who can work out a more reasonable television package.

sorry, but money talks. If you combine your theory with logic, the ACC would be most likely to get poached. They're smack dab in SEC and the outskirts of new Big ten country, and have some canidates that both conferences would love (Virginia, UNC, FSU, etc)
still curious about this whole ACC theory of yours. who would go where? and why?
start simple who would the B1G go for and why? how would you shift the divisions?

also who is relegated down to American or CUSA or where ever? going back 5 to 10 years i would have to think Virginia, Syracuse Wake Forest and Boston College arent exactly pulling weight here.

Pitt and VT to the B1G TEN East. shifting Indiana and Michigan State to the West.
SEC grabs Clemson and GT? shifting Missouri and Vandy West?
Louisville, North Carolina, NC State, Duke, Florida State and Miami to the Big 12 along with West Virginia and Iowa State as the East division
TT, TX, TCU, OK, OKST, Baylor, Kansas and Kansas State as west?

The theory was based on logic - something you are apparently lacking. There's more money to be made in the SEC, Big 10 & ACC than there is in the Big 12. Fortunately for the Vitamin League, none of those three are looking to expand at the moment.

Bahahahahahahahahaha, yeahTV execs are going to say “we don’t want/need Texas”. Bahahahahahahahaha continue with that bandy

UVA would be a much better fit for the B1G in my opinion. SEC would be a better fit for VT. Also think that the B1G would try to go after either Duke or UNC instead of Pitt.

Oregon would beg the SEC to let them join them. Uncle Phil would promise them tons of free Nike crap.

They'd laugh at their stadium size and end up in the MWC where they belong.

The future size of conferences probably has more to do with the future of TV rights and how that market shakes out as cable keeps losing more of their foothold than the stability or solvency directly of the individual teams. No one knows if the same money is going to be available when the dust settles. No reason to go to 16 if you aren't doing it for a massive cash grab on big TV deals.

This is where the Pac12 network model is built. If the cable bubble finally does burst the Pac12 will be fine. But at moment Larry Scott how allowed ESPN and Fox to treat the conference like the MWC and let the cable and satellite companies treat the conference like an afterthought.

Shit, we'd love to be treated like the god damned MWC right now. Doubt they'd get bumped for a second rate race on a third tier network.

Boise's games always get bumped on Friday nights..but ya, at least on the fucking west coast switch the telecast over. It's always some shitty SEC game that bumps the Pac12 after dark game on ESPN. And I don't like how I can't get Pac12 Arizona, I will watch the ASU girls play anything.

Oregon State, Washington State and Cal will be knocking down your door.

Oregon State and Washington State sure since Oregon nor Washington could leave the conference without little brother but I think Berkeley would drop sports before they would move to another conference where they aren't the loudest voice in the room.

So, the ACC and SEC would go after the Virginia and NC schools first. My guess is the BIG gets Virginia and Duke, SEC lands UNC and Va tech. Rest of the league panics, big 12 scoops up a block of 6.

Big 12 would probably want Clemson, FSU, Miami, last 3 are a crap shoot. Cuse, GT, maybe Pitt would be my guess. BC and Wake Forrest would be doomed, nobody in Boston cares about BC and Wake Forrest is a small basketball school surrounded by bigger, better basketball schools.

There may be a lot of things the Big 12 might want; but being the most precarious of the Power-5 conferences will leave them on the outside looking in. The state of Texas is a great market for college football, but that's about it, as far as the B-12's current footprint. Oklahoma (the U.) draws interest on a national scale, and West Virginia on an accelerated regional scale, but that's about it.

Nobody is going to be drawn away from higher visibility & higher paying conferences like the SEC, Big 10 & ACC to join the Big 12. It's just not happening.

If the Big 12 wants to grow, it's going to have to steal someone from the AAC or the MWC, or invite BYU.

As far as needing Texas: nope. Neither the SEC nor the Big 10 - or even the ACC - need Texas. Would they be interested in Texas? Sure. Oklahoma, too, as far as the SEC goes. The Big 10 would probably be more interested in a Texas/Kansas model, due to academics & the basketball angle. But they don't really need them.

If they thought a 16-team model would work better than the current 14-team model, I'm sure the SEC would be glad to work out something with Texas & Oklahoma - or even Oklahoma by themselves, with another team to be added later.

But the logistics have to work - not just for the league(s) absorbing the new teams, but the new teams themselves. And don't expect the SEC to take Texas without making demands to convert the Longhorn Network into the SEC Bonus Network.

That would be adding just to be adding. Getting worse by getting bigger. Quality at the expense of quantity.

BYU has a national following just because of the Morman Church ergo providers (be it TV or the next generation model of however it is delivered) might be willing to pony up some cash. Not one team in the AAC or MWC would move the needle enough on a "non regional" scale to make any difference. Hell, no one outside the Big 12 area will watch games like Baylor-Iowa State. Why the hell would they add more games like Memphis - Texas Tech if there isn't demand to watch them?

That's one of the reasons the Big 12 is in the most precarious shape of the P-5 leagues.

It very well may be...but the PAC ain't in too good a shape either.

The Big 12 adding teams that don't bring a good draw to the table won't help the "precarious shape" of the league whatsoever.
