I watched until the end of that inning, then I assumed you had it
wrapped up. ND had the lead 3-1 entering the 4th.

The big game was the third one. the last seeded team in the tourney,
Pitt eliminated UNC, the top seed, from reaching the semi's by knocking off the Heels 5-4. Pitt won both pool games and is the
first team to advance to the semi's.

Duke Beat Wake in 13 innings today 6-2 and will play Louisville
tomm for a spot in the semi's.

Clemson and Miami will be starting shortly. The winner of that game
advances to the semi's.

Besides Duke-Louisville, the only other meaningful game will
be the 7pm game between NC State and Florida State. The winner
advances to the semi's. NC St lost today to UVA but as the highest seeded
team in the pod, they will always advance if the pod ends in a 3-way tie (1-1).

Friday's game between Ga Tech and UNC is meaningless.

Rabalais: LSU's Todd Peterson -- the man, the legend, the lie (just a little one)

“I told him to stand in the batter’s box, take three strikes and not move,” Mainieri said. “He looked at me with a sad face, like he was kind of hurt.

“I asked him, ‘Did you hit in high school?’ He said, ‘Coach, I hit nukes in high school.’ So I said, ‘OK, Todd, let it rip.’ ”

I saw that interview and replay. Couldn't help but like the kid when he was standing on 2nd pumping his arms.

FSU had something similar this year. One of our pitchers, Cobi
Johnson hit the ball well in practice...he's a RSJr. Well, they let
him pinch hit near the end of the season. He hit a HR on the first
pitch. They did it again in the next game and he doubled.

They used him as a DH for 3 or 4 games but he cooled way off.

I agree, good to see that side of college athletics.

My oldest and I were discussing that maybe during the off season that Mainieri needs to give all the pitchers on the team a few hacks. If it wasn't for Austin Bain (modern day Roy Hobbs) it would have been an even longer season.

Parrish goes the distance for FSU, throwing a 5-hitter as the
Noles advance to the semi's with a 5-2 victory over NC State.

FSU will play Clemson tomorrow and Louisville and Pitt will square
off in the other semifinal.

The winners meet on Sunday for the title.

I don't know if we've done enough to warrant a National Seed, without a win over Clemson. However it could be close.

Georgia was 8th in the country entering the SEC tourney and lost
both of their games to fall to 37-19. FSU was 9th and is now at 41-17 with
6 wins in our last 7 games.

RPI is almost dead even right now and FSU should pass UGA
in the morning.

'Course I'm not sure that UNC is safe for a National Seed either.

A win over the Tigers would all but lock up a National Seed.

Good ball game tonight.

Well pitched by both teams. Both teams blew chances at big
innings. Score was back and forth all night long, but FSU
prevailed 5-4 to move to the finals of the ACC tourney.

We'll face Louisville at Noon tomorrow.

Noles score 3 in the top of the 10th to down Louisville for our
3rd ACC title in the last 4 years. Our tourney record during
that span improved to 15-1 with today's victory.

I believe we have locked up a National Seed with a 43-17 record.

We had already improved to a #8 rpi and may have lowered that
with today's win. 3 teams that are projected as National Seeds
we have passed in rpi. (Georgia, Clemson and UNC) Plus
Stetson is the Atlantic Sun Champ with a 45-11 record and they have
a #4 rpi ranking. (They won't make them a National Seed, but they
may get a chance to host)

OK...I went and checked Boyd's World and Warren Nolan's
rpi rankings, that are updated thru today. (Not official but very, very close)

Nolan has our rpi at #5 and Boyd's World has us at #3. We will
be a Top 8 National Seed.

Predicting for tomorrow I will say that the first 6, not in any exact
order will be Florida, Stanford, FSU, Ole Miss, Oreg St and Arkansas.

The other 2 Top 8 Natl seeds will come from a group of 4 teams...
Clemson, UNC, Georgia and Texas Tech.

The selection committee always leans heavily toward RPI. They don't go in exact order but 6 of the top 8 will always be seeded.

Stetson has a #4 RPI, but they'll never get a National Seed. They
will get to host a regional though. They have a damn good stadium (City owned, with great Hot Dogs).

The other 8 seeds (Hosts) will be the two from the group of
Clemson, UNC, UGA and Texas Tech that don't make the Top 8,
plus Stetson and East Carolina from mid-majors.

Then will come Minnesota and Coastal Carolina.

The final two will be from a group of Auburn, Tex AM LSU and Texas.

We'll know at Noon on Monday.
