Wasn't it already applied to him?
Players can have the tag placed on them numerous times. But each time it costs the team more and more exponentially. It also pisses the player off in most cases. Because if they get a serious injury they're screwed. They potentially lose all the $ of a guaranteed long term deal.

Wasn't sure how that worked. Thank you.

There is that.
The similarities are how hard of a decision it is to trade or hold onto them and get zero in return.
JG up and coming potential star getting his first big contract. ET a proven vet likely getting his last big deal.

JG is a young QB. ET is a Hall of Fame FS about to hit 30. He's got a few more years left in him but he's not going to get crazy money from anyone.

3x's then the player walks. I learned this by watching the Redskins and KC.

I've seen it written both ways. Both quoted the CBA. One said you could but it would be insanity as it would be another 44% increase. The other said you couldn't:noidea:

I forget the years but Walter Jones was tagged three times.

Yeah. He was retired by 2010 though. The Seahawks used their tag that year on Olindo Mare, of all people.

The current regime clearly doesn't believe in using the tag unless there is no other choice.

Well that's good. I say we use it on Thomas.

Which we might do. Or we might resign him. Or we might let him go somewhere else.

What we aren't going to do is trade him weeks before the season starts simply to collect a mid-round asset and no team is going to offer the Seahawks a 1st round, or 2nd round pick for that matter, to get a 29 year old Thomas with one year left on his contract.

Trading him away for a 3rd or later makes little sense since they are likely to get that as a comp pick if he leaves.

I don't care how we do it. All I care about is having him back there for us this season.

This sums up the ET situation. He can say whatever he wants, and hater fans can say what they want, but the reality of it all is that the acceptable trade value would have presented itself prior to last month's draft if it was going to. Having ET on the team in 2018 plus a 3rd round comp pick in 2020 is more valuable than a 2019 3rd round pick and no ET in '18.

Well, if you're truly a Seahawks fan then you absolutely should care about what instrument the team uses to have ET on the 2018 roster. I don't want them giving him some ludicrous extension that is ultimately going to hurt the team when he is no longer here or on the team but not playing at a high level. This is especially true if you think 2018 is a transition year.

I retract my last post. If we can't afford the kinda contract he wants then we should cut him loose next offseason.

It's going to be an interesting situation. To me, the most likely outcome is letting him walk in a year. Lots of factors involved....how ET plays, what the team thinks of Tedric Thompson, how much money ET wants, the state of the rest of the team/defense, etc. I would be ok with him being extended a couple years, but it can't be a deal that puts the team in a bind down the road.

I forgot all about Tedric Thompson. I expect great things from him.

We drafted 3 potential starting DBs last year by the 3rd round -- Shaq Griffin, Tedric Thompson, and Delano Hill. I think the team started planning for the transition from the LOB before it started to happen.

Gonna be interesting to see how good these 3 guys are this coming season.

Please don't use the word exponentially. You don't understand what it means. Thank you.
