Winning 1 out of 3 vs. the Cubs increased our winning percentage. So that's a plus.

Did I hear or read correctly that this series with the Rangers was the first home series we won all season? That's borderline embarassing

Rodon due back soon, Abreu hitting a groove, good starts by Gio and Lopez back-to-back. Shields hasn't been a TOTAL gas can as of late. Baltimore and Detroit up next. Maybe this helps our confidence, as it had to have been shattered.

Jones/Fry have suddenly made the bullpen close to respectable.

I don't know... I'm trying over here.

Wouldn't shock me to see them ease the fan-base's tensions a bit by playing some decent baseball the next couple of weeks. We're bad - but we ain't 120 losses bad. lol. I think we're due to benefit from some much needed variance.

Agreed. No matter how badly we have played, and there have been some real stinkers, I hope the brass sticks to the timetables and not bring up players from the minors prematurely. As embarrassing as this season has been (I defer to idseer's reaction to my last post, therefore the borderline part has been removed), I'd rather see us land the first or second pick in the '19 draft than rush players up to the bigs when they're not yet ready.

Dylan Covey

It's getting a bit interesting. It hasn't been luck either. He's been getting a lot of swings/misses and K's. Not a lot of hard contact. I couldn't stand him last season...

Wouldn't it be something if he became our Jake Arrieta? Former huge prospect who failed, failed again and then right when everyone gave up on him... he put it together.

Yet another fine outing by Lopez, only to be done in by one of the worst pens in baseball.

A 180 degree turnaround from last season. I was actually dreading it when the Sox announced his call up. Yet, aside from Lopez, he's been our most consistent starter to date.

I mean, it's a smaller sample size than Lopez. Lopez has been solid all season, but Covey in his handful of starts has been better.

He was a circus act last year. I'm stunned by what he's doing and his last three starts have been against CLE, MIL and BOS. No easy trek.

He's K'ing a batter an inning. His two-seam fastball is downright nasty. His velo is up to 96... I guess this is the guy that the Brewers drafted ahead of Sale, huh?

We'll see if it keeps up. I hate that this last start has me somewhat believing in the whole ordeal. I'm sure there will be a regression, but I'm now looking forward to "Covey days" and I can't believe I'm saying that. Needs to cut down on the free passes a bit. 3.5 per 9 innings.

LOL, agreed, especially on the bolded part. In all honesty tho, I still wince a bit when I know he's up next in the rotation. But damn if this guy isn't beginning to minimize my doubts. I would LOVE for him to give us a solid effort with each start. Lopez is doing this, Rodon is back.....remains to be seen for how long and how effective, but at least he's back. Now if we can just get some consistency out of Giolito. We just may have the makings of a decent rotation and that's not counting all the young arms still making their way thru the minors. There just may be a light at the end of the tunnel.

Hansen, Dunning, Cease and Kopech still on their way up as well. If Giolito is a bust, it'd hurt seeing as how highly touted of a prospect he was. However, it really doesn't affect the future all that much. Especially seeing as Lopez is kind of where we all thought Gio would be. It's kind of like the Eaton trade worked out exactly as we thought... except with the results flip-flopped between Gio and Lopez. I haven't completely given up on him yet. The pitcher we saw close the season strong last year is still there somewhere.

We're playing good ball right now. It's good to see. Palka is also looking like a potential diamond in the rough. My goodness, he hits the ball hard man. lol. Strong boy.

Moncada continues to be a very good hitter from the left-side and hard to watch from the right. He either needs to figure that out or switch to left-handed full-time this off-season.

I'm not sure if there's anything you've said since I've been on this board that I agree with more strongly than this. I'm not even sure why the Sox continue to let him hit from the right side. He's batting more than 100 points lower on that side, no homers, only a couple of ribbies......it's almost criminal. What does he have to lose batting lefty against a lefty? He couldn't possibly be any worse.

Yeah, I agree. There's examples of guys who have eventually figured out from the other side, but if this persists -- there's only so long it can go on.

We're a decent team right now.

Dylan Covey continues to be fantastic.
