Braves release Bautista month after adding him

Bautista, 37, batted just .143 (5-for-35) with two home runs in 12 games with the Braves.

Braves general manager Alex Anthopoulos said the team's staff agreed that Johan Camargo deserved the opportunity to play every day at third base, meaning Bautista would be hard-pressed for playing time.

"As we looked at it, knowing there weren't going to be at-bats for Jose, that's not fair to him," Anthopoulos said Sunday before the Braves' game against the Miami Marlins. "We talked to [Bautista] last night, and just talked it over with him. ... We agreed that if there wasn't going to be at-bats and playing time here, that's not right for him."

I was always pretty much just a reader on Twitter. I've become a very active poster since Bautista joined the lineup. Glad he's finally gone.

Yeah not sure why they decided to bring him in. Was this just a PR stunt? did they honestly think he'd be goof.

Third base is a position of need, and has been since Chipper retired. We have a stud 3B prospect who will probably be up before the end of the season, but we were rolling out Ryan Flaherty every day at third(who had actually been a productive player and did nothing to lose his job).

Our new GM built up the Blue Jays, and I guess he wanted a nostalgia piece and hoped Bautista could find the fountain of youth for one last season. He predictably didn't.

He was a strikeout machine and a defensive liability. Now that Dansby is back, Camargo, Flaherty and Culberson are all better options at third until Austin Riley is ready.

I was going to say, you got Riley waiting in the wings. Kid has delivered so far. Even if Joey Bats contributed, still felt he'd have been up by the end of the year.

Dropping Bautista already paying off.

We just scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 9th the win 10-9.

There were 2 outs with one on for Freddie Freeman(3 hole hitter) with one run in and the score being 9-5 Marlins.

Had Bautista been in the lineup, he would have struck out and ended the game before Dansby Swanson got his chance to walk it off from the 8 hole in the lineup.

Think this is the end of run for Bautista in MLB. Guy had a solid career but think this is it.

Now the Mets possibly want him or at least somewhat interested

He's going to the Mets apparently.

Because they don't have enough past their prime corner infielders with a low average, high K rate and lost power.

Mets signed OF Jose Bautista to a one-year contract.

This came together quickly, as Bautista is already in New York and will be active for Tuesday night's game against the Marlins. He got a major league deal from the Mets despite batting .143/.250/.343 over 40 plate appearances on a minor league pact with the Braves. That just shows how desperate the Mets are for immediate right-handed corner outfield depth. We wouldn't expect the 37-year-old to carry any fantasy value in Queens.:suds:
