I will posture the thought that it might be wiser to cut the guys who only look great in practice and keep the guys who only look good in games.

Well when they were thinking about cutting him Preseason hadn't started yet. Training camp was just getting going and because Sloter had looked so bad in all the offseason work before training camp had started and the beginning of training camp they were thinking about making a change because it was hurting the team to evaluate the end of the roster guys who worked with Sloter. They decided to give him a bit more time and he improved. The games showed he definitely had a little something but I think too often we can overvalue what happens when those 3rd string guys go in and face each other.

The real problem last year Carl was the Broncos spent so much time with the #1 QB job competition - no one got enough snaps to get a rhythm going with the other guys on offense. That and McCoy's offense was too complicated (hence why Sloter looked maybe raw in practice). Someone else found Sloter good enough to put on their roster.

^ McCoy’s complicated offense was perhaps the biggest disappointment from coaching last season. VJ learning his role as a first year head coach...I suppose some things just have to be learned the hard way. But what has us excited about McCoy was his past abilities to taper the offense to the players on hand. The expectation he’d be able to get maximum output from Siemian within his abilities wasn’t unreasonable considering Siemian’s solid first year as a starter and some of the work McCoy has done in the past.

I don’t know what to expect from Musgrave but it’s good we have a more experienced QB who may be able to adjust to some concepts those in the QB room last year couldn’t do.

It didn't help that Siemian was easily read by opposing defenses either. He's a capable backup, but I don't see him as a regular starter in this league for that reason.

Yeah. Good assessment once again . The D assignment vs Simian and the offense was... Blitz the shit out of them because they can't run or Pass blk. I'm sure opposing D coordinators were up all night trying to figure how to slow down this Broncos offensive scoring machine.

When you have multiple teams openly speak out about Siemian letting them know what play they were running before the snap yes he was definitely a bit part of the problem. This isn't a only one thing was wrong kind of situation. The OL was not great, they didn't have the weapons to get open in a hurry, and Siemian letting teams know where the ball is going before the snap all led to the offense being down right terrible.

Funny how Minnesota had an O-line that was ranked similarly to Denver's last season, and yet they were one game away from the Super Bowl.

QB's make such a huge difference. Manning made a lot of bad OL's look much better than they were. That is the one quality of Keenum that I am most looking forward to is his ability to feel pressure and know when to move around in the pocket to buy extra time.

Honestly last year I put only about half the sacks on the OL and the other half on the QB's. They were terrible at helping the OL out by stepping up in the pocket or not dropping back 10 yards and sitting there waiting to get hit.

I would add to that the WRs for the Broncos were terrible about coming back toward the QB after the initial play blew up.

Our OL was a smidge improved last year as sad as it is to say. That being said it wasn't good, but Siemian have no good OL was one of many issues he had. Guy was dumber then a box of rocks when it came to eluding pressure and where to throw the ball. I've never see a QB straight up run right into pressure as much as ding dong did.

So....what's that say about Lynch then ? What's dumber than a box of rocks then ? :)

I'd say both were dumber than a box or rocks.

Can't make an excuse for Siemian but not for Lynch on the OL play.
Both failed big time. Siemian had even more of an opportunity... Both failed and were replaced this year. Nothing else to really talk about with these two. One failed and is off the roster, the other failed and is still on the roster as a backup. I don't think there is much more to say about these two other then they failed to become our starting QB when given the chance.

6'3" 190. Kinda skinny. Needs to add some weight if he wants to stand up to NFL pass rushers without being broken in half.

Neither did jack squat. It was the worst QB situation in the league last year. There is no getting around that. Maybe the Browns give them a run for their money but that is about it.
