He can run block the holes he and Nelson created for Notre Dame running backs were like highways.

While i WAS thinking defense all the way, i know how important OT's are. They are tough to get so why not now.

Also he's the best one in this years class and hopefully they won't be picking this high again.

Don't like it. It should be defense, defense, defense. SF really needs to rebound in this draft for my liking.

I agree they need defensive players but you are paying your QB 37 million dollars this year keeping the pocket clean for him is as important as anything else. Also the draft isn't over yet.

Garoppolo himself kept the pocket clean. The tackle does nothing defensively, or leadership. It'll be a good pick if Staley packs up and retires in the very near future or if SF is gonna move T. Brown.

Well Brown is a free agent after this year. He was a two year captain at Notre Dame so he does have leadership skills.

Yeah....sorry.....this guy could be Anthony Munoz and I'd have a hard time getting on board.

That's ok I'm a Notre Dame fan so I'm biased, this kid is very good player he's as safe a pick as you can get.

Yeah, my hope was defense, defense, then two OL in round 3. But you have to take the best value and apparently they felt this was it. I'm ok with it as we DO need to protect Jimmy G, else it is 0-x all over again.

Again, Garapollo makes up for offensive deficiencies, and I see him as truly a game changer. In that case, just load up on defense and win games 24-17 week in, week out. Now I have to believe that SF will just go full on with defense with guys dropping.

WTF. Passing on better players and postions of gretaer need.
Lynch is a fucking waste. He seems to fall in love with the person vs the player.
Only Billichek gifting him JimmyG keeps Lynch from showing he's over his fucking head. Matt Miller part deux

But that's what Seattle did, they felt russell wilson buys himself time.........

Not disagreeing JG helps, but the line also helps the run game. Every play-off team needs a running game, and they saw McGlinchey as a good outside zone blocker. That is what Trent Brown doesn't do well, outside zone blocking. Maybe Brown's injury is worse than they publicize?

i was for defense too and all things being equal, would've preferred D. But we don't evaluate to the details our team does, we only go by the national opinion. national opinion doesn't delve deep into the 49er schemes.

OK....After sleeping on it, and a few beers.....I hate the pick less. After reading reports that the brass might be bothered by Trent Brown being out of shape and a pending FA, Staley in the middle of the back 9, I can see the logic behind it. For whatever reason, my guy Landry wasn't selected (which is surprising...it's gotta be medical-oriented) and Oliver and Josh Jackson are still available. Unfortunately, SF don't pick until the back end of the 2nd, so they're gonna have to make moves to get one.

In the end, I'll roll with Mike McGlinchey.

Trying to trade Brown for draft capital. They would like a 2nd rounder but I don't know if they will get it.

The McGlinchey pick makes more sense now. The FO knew that Brown was way out of shape and since he's entering his FA year we'd either have to tag him (um, no) or pay him very high bucks--something they're reluctant to do b/c of his effort level and conditioning. I get it.

Getting a 2 would be great, but I don't see that happening. I could see us getting a 2, but only if we send back some picks of our own.

There are tweets out there that several teams had medical flags on Landry about his knee and back.

Every year, there's a guy that falls out of RD 1 that all the "experts" said was a 1st rd lock. Looks like Jackson and Landry are those guys this year. OTOH, there's a guy that gets poicked in the first where everybody says "WHO??"....this year that was Seattle taking Penney.

No doubt, there are some furious moves being made at the top of rd 2.

Well I guess that makes sense, regarding Landry. Too bad, cause I think he'd be a legit edge wrecker. Josh Jackson is definitely a guy I'd be interested in getting tonight, and I'm still high on I. Oliver.

I also just read that the Niners and Pats are potentially working on a deal for Trent Brown. Hopefully something can happen tonight so we can grab at least one of those defenders.

the Pats have a lot of picks so even if they don't get a 2nd round pick they should end up with enough to either move up or back into the 2nd round should they choose to.
