Skilled is definitely a strong word to use about JVR IMO. Remember he was drafted in 2007 and chose to go to school instead of playing for us for his first two years. You are right all drafts are a crap shoot and we lost that crap shoot when we drafted JVR and also when we traded him.
Also... what line would JVR play with on this team?

Wayne Simmonds said he had a “torn pelvis” during training camp but played all season with it.

Not really sure what he means by that term, but it would explain an awful lot.

Guess las and SF didn't read my long post where I said they should add Cole, Stastny, Skinner, and Smith across the summer and trade deadline next year. Either that or making 4 'now' moves counts as waiting 3 more years
I did finally, lol. I told you I had some catching up to do, I agree with you and a lot of others. I would love to add Vet Dmen first and if somehow we could make a not too costly move for a goalie, well then I hope they look at it.(Lookin at you Tukka lol)
Puh-lease...We managed to go over 5k this past season. Does anyone ever take a personal day?
I just got back from Nevada so I had to at least put in an effort today.

Explains why he looked slow, less physical and basically had a down year for him. I hope he is 100% in training camp next season, because we can use his speed, scoring and toughness.

Do people actually think Tavares will come to Philly with the thinking that in 3 years if a goalie works out were good to go? Lol stupidest shit ever heard, Carey Price please. I as a fan am tired of fuckin waiting on what could be, no one knows if Hart will be an NHL stud. A good goalie and some heart could of been the difference maker against Shitsburgh.

Uh, the Islanders are an absolute mess, so yes, why not?

That and take a look at Matt Murray. He played one half of a season in the Ahl and then won two Cups immediately. Whose to say the same thing couldn't happen with Carter Hart if we spend our cap money the right way?

Yeah, you don't know that he will be a stud, but you also don't know that he won't. Everything he's done to this point tells us he's going to be great and we could find out as soon as next season whether he can play at the pro level.

So what do we do if Taveras signs with someone else?:suds:

You can have you both Mav and Awaz they are willing to keep waiting and putting all eggs into the Hart basket in 3-5 more years of losing.

Again, whose to say Hart won't play for one season (or less) in the Ahl and then be a solid Nhl starter?

Not sure where you're getting this 3-5 year shit from. We're going to have potentially $25 million in cap space THIS offseason and that can go a long way toward building a contender.

OMG we are on 6 pages already and we cannot figure out why Price would be the answer.. The Isles can't afford to resign Tavares. For me, it's a no brainer and wait until FA is open for business. Thoughts? Keep it clean @Chris p Bacon and @lasgop8 ..

Go all-in for Tavares. That guy is a game-changer and we don't need to trade for him either, unless we send over a low pick for his rights before the start of free agency.

Awaz is right that Montreal is going to want Provorov and then some for Price, which is a dealbreaker for us. No way we're doing that. His contract is too expensive ($10.5 million) and long (8 years) anyway for a guy turning 31 this summer.

We're going to regret that move, at some point.

Not feasible:
Stasny 3 years 5 million
Cole 4 years at 4 million

If you want to put up guys like that you will be paying more for them also.

Cole's cap hit is only $2.1 million right now. What makes you think he'll cost more than $4 million all of the sudden?

Yes, Stastny is making $7 million.

So, it could be $10-11 million total for both of them. We have more than enough cap space to pay them market value and still have money leftover for other moves or signings.

All of this is extremely feasible and those guys are serious upgrades over Filppula and Gudas.

I'm worried more about the length of term than the dollars anyway. We won't want to lock a player in long term if they are north of age 30.

Whats the other part? You like players picked 2nd in the draft who have a career high of 62 points 11 years after being drafted?.

Still, he scored 36 goals this season. Not bad for a guy with a cap hit of $4.25 million and getting only 15 minutes of ice per game. That's pretty damn efficient. Only five players scored more goals this season and took up less cap space.

oh for funsies, the way the team is currently constructed, I think you put JVR on the 2nd line with Patrick & Voracek

I concur on that. As of right now, he would score a lot more goals with them than Lindblom.

Maybe you cant read so well so i will spell it again for you. I dont want to put all the Flyers eggs in one basket. Nobody said he wont be a solid starter. AND im getting the 3-5 year "shit" as you put it from zero 20 year old goalies have ever won a cup. So slow your roll and stop sipping Hart's Kool aid

This would be awesome. Add another puss to a team full of pusses. If you've ever heard the saying fool me once shame on you, if you fool me twice shame on me. You're the guy who gets fooled twice.

Slight change of topics, but curious for those in the conversation. How would you rate the Flyers biggest needs to be a cup contender next season?

For me, it's
1. Top 4 dman
2. 3C
3. Goalie
4. Scoring winger

I'd flip 3 & 4. I think Elliott's injury kept him from getting to the form he had earlier in the year when he carried the team.
