I don't think the Heat are thugs but they definitely played very physical basketball especially on the press. Which is what teams should do when they are facing a talent deficiency.

Heat for the most part always play physical.
At least the refs gave you the calls.
Wait till your getting hacked by a bigger brand team and those same types of plays aren’t called.

Yep I can't imagine how tough it is for players.

You're used to playing a certain way on defense for about 7-8 months then all of sudden, things that were not fouls in the regular season is a foul on every possession in the playoffs.

When you play that physical they are going to call a lot of fouls.

I have him as the 3 best sg.....ever.

Do you have it:

1. Jordan
2. Kobe
3. D-Wade

Never really thought about where he'd rank at his position.

Yep.

Admittedly, I have recency bias because I didnt see the Jerry West's, George Gervin's in their day.

Plus, where do you put Iverson?

You have my top 3.

Next I'd go the Logo, Gervin, Iverson, Drexler.....

If you think that the reason why the Heat got more fouls called on them was because of the Sixers being a bigger brand then I don't know what to say other than I fundamentally disagree.

James Johnson and Tyler Johnson played VERY physical games tonight. Hassan Whiteside is a bull in a china shop these days.

There were maybe 4 or 5 calls I saw that you could argue should haven't been called which is pretty typical in a game and goes both ways.

He was about as bad as bad can be.
Nothing to marinate for me.
Its really not his fault that he just doesnt fit in this era of the league.

20 years ago the guy might be a multi time all star getting a bunch of posts touches going up against traditional center after traditional center fighting Patrick Ewing and Alonzo Mourning to the death in the rough and tumble East.

In todays game unless you are just unbelievable like Rudy Gobert defensively, or you can shoot the 3 and keep the ball moving, its just really really hard to find 30+ minutes a game for a traditional center. Everyone goes small now adays and has multiple shooters that can rain from 3 at 38% or better.

Its just why a guy like Marc Gasol impresses me so much. He saw the need to learn a 3 pt shot. In Marc Gasol's first 8 NBA seasons he shot 66 3's. 2 years ago he started learning a 3 pt shot. He shot 268 threes in '16/'17 for 38.8%, and this year 320 threes for 34%. The guy also averages 4.3 assists the last 2 years.

Its just hard for any traditional center to stay on the court unless they are just unbelievable AND the team commits to them and builds around them to a certain extent like a Rudy G.

Yeah, but a couple of times, it looked like things were going to boil over.

You don't want that, at least I didn't.

You never want to see a series decided because a top guy gets hurt or suspended.

Heat been playing this way all season. They committed fewer fouls per game than Philly in the regular season.

They didn't just implement this defense 2 weeks ago when the regular season ended lol

Wade is 100% a 1st ballot Hall of Famer. One of the 5 best basketball players of his generation. Arguably top 3.
I would hesitate to say top 20 of all time - I would REALLY have to look at it--- but i think its comfortable to say top 30 of all time.

Guys, this could be the night that we say goodbye to two of the most exciting SG's of our generation.

Manu and Wade.

Damn...go Spurs.

I'm fine with that top 3. I'd argue West for 3rd, but could be talked with having D-Wade there. I've never been a big fan of AI personally. He was electric but often not very efficient.

Seasonal teams stats are not always helpful. The first half Sixers and 2nd half Sixers were two very different teams.

And if you think they played like this day in day out in the regular season, I don't know what to say.

The Heat were a good defensive team but they were mismatched in the playoffs.

I think we just need to team up Whiteside with Jahlil Okafor at PF, maybe get Moe Harkless at SF...you know, get an early 80s lineup together and see how it works in the modern era...

Yeah Philly was better but the way the refs called the games was just lame. You're not supposed to call playoffs games tighter than regular season games.

Philly deserved to win but I was just disappointed with how ridiculously tight they called basically every game in this series.

Yeah, some of the more..............seasoned posters would probably agree with you on whose 3 and 4.

But, it's hard for me to compare generations unless there is a clear cut discrepancy in talent, intangibles...

Ex Comparing Deandre Jordan, Dwight Howard to Wilt.

Just....no.

I probably missed one Heat game this season.

Yeah...I'm pretty sure they had the same defensive philosophy back in October that they had in this series. They didn't do some overhaul on a defense that finished in the top 10 when the regular season ended

Off topic but question for the Miami fans.

Who owns the city of Miami? Heat? Dolphins? Hurricanes? I know not the Marlins..

Is whatever team is the current most successful the kings of the city? Not trying to make a jab at bandwagoning but many cities flow that way.

Agree to an extent.
Just because a team goes small to create open perimiter shots doesnt mean the shots will go in.
That same team going that small should get pummeled on the other end if an effort is made to take advantage of the mismatch.
The team mentality contributed to him being bad.
They rarely attempted to get him going.
If you watch the Heat, you’d know he’s streaky.
