It can be. If we have no chance at the division,WC, WS etc, then we can make good decisions, evaluations and trades without undue pressures. At the present we have several opportunities to discover just how far we can advance with some of our young players already here and others on the way. I consider this a WIN considering where we are and where we've been. No more FA patch work and outlandish contracts. Time is a valuable tool at hand. We are on the right track and should be exciting to watch it all come together.

We did win yesterday, did we not? That's all I was alluding too. I know we lost the series, but this wasn't my statement.

And I conquer with DT's sentiments.

And this comes at a time when there is a greater emphasis on taking pitches and working counts than ever before it seems. I wonder if they are related. In other words, is an emphasis on taking pitches causing batters to miss opportunities early in the count to make contact with the ball and thus putting them behind in the count? Are batters in MLB giving away strikes?

I think it's more amazing when you take into account that Rougned Odor has been on the DL.

I think the all or nothing approach is a contributing factor and better relief pitchers who are not pitching to contact. Batters don’t protect the plate as much with 2 strikes and pitchers are more willing to walk batters vs serve one up. Wonder what walks look like

I agree on the all or nothing approach as a good reason. Plus if you have an umpire that puts batters in tough situations of taking a 3rd strike that was out of the zone or call an early pitch a strike that is out of the zone and now the batter is swinging at pitches he normally would not it can contribute along with more and more metrics on the weaknesses of the hitter.

There was an article a few weeks back saying the Phillies might be interested in Cole Hamels in July. I was reading just now on the Baseball America Hot Sheet that the Phillies have a prospect named Ranger Suarez. That sounds like a natural fit. lol

Question. Have we been better off offensively and defensively combined with a combination of Profar and IKF than we were with the combo of Elvis and Odor?

Also, are we better off having Fister get hurt so we could get more outings from Colon?

Good question. Elvis >Profar IKF>Odor goes for off/def imo.
Never good to have an injury. imo
