All good points. Butler not playing wasn't the deciding factor in that game. If Tommy boy just extended his arms on that one pass...

Deciding fact, prob not...but I am willing to bet that Butler makes 3 tackles that Richards/Badmossi whiffed on and maybe....just maybe.....TB is trying to run the clock out at the point with a lead and would prob take a sack and punt...who knows. Thing is, we'll never know if Butler could have helped this team or not....he was not given the chance one way or another......and that, I think is what pisses people off.

I'm not defending BBs actions. I do believe it was more ego then anything. We're all armchair QBs and it's easy to place blame and what if after the fact. Maybe Butler gets burned on a deep route? It's not like we didn't see a lot of his jersey number this year. I have almost as much disdain for Butler, actually more then I do for BB at this point. Butler has been an issue since the great SB interception. I think whatever went on was too much for BB to swallow.

Onto 2019 SB run.

Don't get me wrong, I agree on Butler taking a few steps back, but one thing remains the same with him, he was one of the best (if not the best) tacklers on this team. I get Rowe starting, what I can't get is how you tell me that Richards and Badmossi are better than Butler. 17 missed tackles that game, 17!!!!!!! I watched Badmossi miss a huge tackle on 3rd and long which lead to a first, if not...pretty sure Phil punts there. Butler was the better player than Richards and Badmossi, period! Fuck for all we know he could have jumped a route or something...bottom line, the best players were not on the field during that game.

This is piece from Ian Logue of PatFans.com. 4/19/2018

As we look forward to tonight’s schedule release, here’s a quick rundown of this morning’s top stories.

Could the Patriots Make a Deal with the 49ers? – With all the discussion about Tom Brady’s future dominating the discussions on Wednesday, the question now is trying to figure out how the Patriots will begin planning their future.

One solution posed by ProFootballTalk was for New England to go back to the 49ers and make a deal to get up into the top 10, with the Patriots possibly dealing the 23rd and 31st pick to obtain San Francisco’s 9th pick overall to go after their next signal-caller.

Mike Florio points out that given the fact New England only picked up a second-round pick for a player who is currently undefeated in his seven starts in the league in Jimmy Garoppolo, it makes sense for Kyle Shanahan to potentially work a reasonable deal to give Bill Belichick an opportunity to replace him. Florio believes it could be Josh Rosen who could be on their radar, which would put that pick in the vicinity of where he might be selected.

It’s an interesting idea and while the Patriots aren’t known for making big moves when it comes to their draft picks, there’s certainly a little more at stake given where Brady is at this point in his career. While Wednesday’s reports hinted that the quarterback’s future is up in the air for 2018, the more logical thought is that it could be his future after 2018 that may be the bigger question and it will be interesting to see how the Patriots try and answer it.

I keep seeing this I'm just not feeling it, at all. To many needs on D in a QB deep class.

That's the thing, it's never just one thing. To contradict myself, maybe the Cooks' plays influenced the game more than Malcolm not playing, but maybe they win the game despite Cooks' plays if Malcolm played. When there are multiple variables it's hard to isolate the affect of any one.

Maybe they win if Cooks isn't KTFO.

I don't buy a trade with the Niners, or anyone else, to move up into a top 10 draft spot. BB would, IMHO, be more likely to trade down than trade up. I'm sure there will be at least one surprise pick that will leave draft experts scratching their heads (hopefully, not another Jordan Richards). As for rehashing the SB loss, there is no way to tell whether having Butler in the starting lineup would have given the Pats a victory. Having Butler in the game would most likely have helped, especially seeing the performance put on by his replacements, but, even with the closeness of the final score, saying the Butler benching cost BB the game is not a totally provable fact.

The Pats have drafted 3 QB's that turned out to be pretty good, Brady, Jimmy, Jacoby B....none taken in the 1st Rd. I doubt BB pulls that trigger. This defense needs help, and there is plenty in this draft to help them for the next 4 yrs.

jezuz........I'm just reporting what I saw on the television. It's nit an indorsment, it's a picture of him in a Patriots' gray hoodie, all smiles. No report of him being signed, no report of a contract offer. Take a breath.

Umm we are all breathing you seem to be the excitable boy. (Great Warren Zevon song)

None of us want Manziel, at least I don't think we do.

Oyy I see now.

Well I am not a fan of the notion but it's not unlike the Pats to take a "Troubled Player". I just don't think he has the talent to play at this level.

Few things...

1) After a Super Bowl loss it seems like all the skeletons come out of the closet. I remember when the Seahawks lost to the Patriots that there was a ton of fighting in that locker room and some major anger by the defense towards the coaching staff. Sherman made it clear that he was not a fan of Russell Wilson and there were times the coaching staff had to intervene between the two. Lynch made it clear his thoughts on how that game ended. And of course we saw this year that they had reached a boiling point where somebody had to go with Sherman walking out the door.

2) I know quite a few people keep hinting at the trade with the 49ers like they owe the Pats something for the trade for Jimmy G. This is a cold business that to me if somebody else does you a favor you take it and run. I wouldn't give up great draft value just because hey they traded you a franchise QB for pennies on the dollar.

3) I agree that people are making too big of a deal out of everything that is coming out about the Pats. I think there is some players that can't stand Belichick. He isn't an easy guy to get along with and they are a team that gives players less than market value. Those players choose to take those because they know they can win a Super Bowl with the Pats so to me no reason to complain when you signed on the dotted line. Nobody forced you to. The Pats run a very tight ship and you can either get on board or get out. They have a proven successful way of doing things but that doesn't mean it works for everyone.

I am a fan of leaving no stone unturned.

That said, I also do not think that Manziel has the head to make it in the big leagues.

But I am only an armchair GM so I prefer people with actual football sense to do an indepth evaluation.
