PEORIA, Ariz. -- With Opening Day now just 11 days away, the Mariners trimmed their Major League camp to 40 players on Sunday, sending four players to the Minor League side, including promising relief prospect Art Warren.

Warren, the Mariners' No. 8 prospect per MLB Pipeline, will likely open the season at Double-A Arkansas after pitching last season for Class A Advanced Modesto, according to manager Scott Servais.

Also sent down were right-handed relievers Mike Morin and Shawn Armstrong and outfielder John Andreoli. The moves leave Seattle with 40 players in big league camp.

Three of the remaining 40 figure to open the year on the disabled list -- right-handed starters Erasmo Ramirez and Hisashi Iwakuma and left fielder Ben Gamel. So essentially there are still 37 players competing for the final 25-man roster spots when the season opens March 29 against the Indians at Safeco Field.

The Mariners likely will open the season with an eight-man bullpen and just four starters due to three off days in the first nine days, and that picture is clarifying with just 10 relievers still in camp.

The remaining relievers are right-handers Edwin Diaz, Juan Nicasio, Nick Vincent, David Phelps, Dan Altavilla, Casey Lawrence, Chasen Bradford and Ryan Cook and lefties Marc Rzepczynski and James Pazos.

Warren never was projected to make the club, but he took advantage of his opportunity to open some eyes.

"The last couple outings he had maybe a little of the dead arm, a young player who was juiced up early," Servais said. "Maybe not quite as sharp as he was early, but I thought he showed very well in this camp."

Armstrong, a 27-year-old acquired from the Indians in December, has gone the opposite direction as he's been able to build up arm strength after a slow start and threw a pair of scoreless innings in Saturday's 4-1 win over the A's in Mesa.

Both Armstrong and Morin -- who'd been claimed off waivers from the Royals in December -- cleared waivers recently to move them off the 40-man roster, but were kept in the organization.

At the game tonight focusing on Vog’s hot spring and to see how Haniger is looking. Any requests?

Right out of the gate, Dee Gordon is a legit center fielder. Just threw a laser shot to home for an out at the plate. He’s playing the ball really well too, looks like this one may work out.

Man I’ve been burned too many times but Vogelbach seems to maybe have found something. Will be interesting to see if they dump Ford and keep Vogelbach

Still don't get why Jerry seems to hate Miranda. And I also think it is dumb they are going to use a 4 man rotation to start the year. Eliminate the risk of hurting Paxton and Felix, don't force Marco to go past 5 and for the love of god don't put so many innings on your pen to start the year.

From last nights game:

The good:
- Dee Gordon > He is going to be more than serviceable in center. Of all the BS Jerry has done this looks like it’ll be a great move.

- Daniel Vogelbach > He just continues to mash. Good sign in spring, but can it translate to safeco?

- Mike Marjama > Had a good night at the plate, but his defense is what stood out. Dare I say we have a legit rotation behind the plate?

The bad:
- Mitch Haniger > His plate discipline is all over the place. It can take some time to get back after an injury, but hopefully this doesn’t take too long. Didn’t look good.

- Chases Bradford > Gave up a touchdown in relief, dude was bad. Hate to judge pitching in spring, but yikes!

The ugly:
- Scott Brosius > He waved Ford home from second when he had no chance with his clear lack of speed. May just be one instance, but I hope this isn’t a sign of what’s to come. The base running is bad enough as it is, we can’t afford giving up free outs.

- Spring training concessions > The food is really losing its way, and last night they ran out of fries yet still charged full price for an Italian beef because the system was set that way. If it’s not that it’s cold ass hot dogs in Peoria or stale hotdog buns at the Cubs home field. For those who may make it to a ST game, stick to the beer it’s better that way.
