I thought Stanton was a pretty good right fielder in Miami. He rates as an above average defender over his career (+51 rPM, +45 DRS, 28.2 UZR, 4.3 UZR/150).

That's what the stats say. The LF experiment is not going well however.

Red Sox manager Alex Cora has named Chris Sale as his Opening Day starter.:suds:

No surprise there. Sale finished second in the American League Cy Young balloting last season after registering a 2.90 ERA, 0.97 WHIP, and a ridiculous 308/43 K/BB ratio across 214 1/3 innings. He will take the bump March 29 against the Rays, with David Price and Rick Porcello to follow. Brian Johnson will open as the team's No. 5 starter, and Eduardo Rodriguez (knee) will serve as the No. 4 starter whenever he's ready.

Cobb to the O's.

he should improve that rotation from awful to mediocre, but I don't think a 4 year deal is a good idea. He's 30, missed almost all of 2015-16 and has crappy strikeout rates. He should work out much better than Cashner IMO, Cashner seems like a strong candidate to become Ubaldo 2.0.

So the Orioles waited all winter, found themselves in a buyer's market, then gave this guy $60M over 4 years AND a #1?

Nice work.

out till may:suds:

???

I saw this on Rotoworld:

Drew Pomeranz (forearm) threw live batting practice on Sunday.
Pomeranz threw two innings in what was essentially a simulated start, and threw 33 pitches -- 17 in the first and 16 in the second. The next step is seeing how the left-hander feels after the outing, but it's his second time throwing to live hitters, and if everything feels right, he could get a chance to see some spring training action before opening day. Mar 18 - 12:01 PM

I can't find anything indicating Pomeranz will be out till May. Just curious where that comes from, unless they meant Eduardo. I've also been a bit out of the loop lately with college hoops/hockey.
