The 15 Worst Trades in Seattle Mariners History | Bleacher Report
bleacherreport.com/articles/343968-the-15-worst-trades-in-seattle-mariners-history
Feb 11, 2010 - 5. Billy Swift, Mike Jackson, and Dave Burba to San Francisco for Kevin Mitchell and Mike Remlinger; Dec. 11, 1991:

2. Adam Jones, George Sherrill, Kameron Mickolio, Chris Tillman, and Tony Butler to Baltimore for Erik Bedard ; Feb. 8, 2008:

The only thing that keeps this from being number one is that the M’s, in need of a replacement for Jones, eventually dealt for Franklin Gutierrez. The Bedard trade was horrendous, but without it, Gutierrez probably wouldn’t be a Mariner today and Jack Z might not be the M’s General Manager.

I realize that article was written in 2010, but I still find it hilarious that it makes it sound like the Mariners were lucky to have Z as GM.

Cliff Lee was really the high point for Z and after that seems like he just stopped trying

Z made some greats moves to start off with and I was sold, kind of like Jerry did then they both went down hill fast. The thing I hated about Z was he started building a foundation then went completely against the foundation he started and left the club in limbo, they went from speed, defense and pitching to a straight power hitting team in half a season.

I havent really given up on Dipoto, he was put in a pretty tough situation to begin with, plus most of the prospects hes traded away while viewed upon high in our organization probably werent seen too highly in others. I think hes done a decent job.

I can understand that point and I may be tough on Jerry because his attitude more than the on field, but this off-season I don't understand a thing he has done and am praying I have to eat crow.

I think the lack of FA interest is due to dumb self imposed salary cap. Which is probably why he went all in on Ohtani, the only FA he could realistically get, getting Dee Gordon didnt make too much sense though seeing as you could have put that money into resigning Dyson then getting a mid level starter, but I think Dipoto was really only in that trade for the International slot money. Then since Marlins are in fire sale mode they worked Gordon in somehow.

I just wish it was Yelich that was worked in, but im not too made about having Gordon, pending if he can atleast become an average defensive CF.

That is something else that bugged me Yelich was on the market, he actually is a CF. Gordon is the exact opposite of what Jerry preaches. And his selling everything like fans are children. I could be blinded because I've grown to dislike essentially anything that comes out of his mouth and hope I'm wrong. I don't care who is in charge ( I hated Pat Gillick) but as long as he brings a WS. That is my main goal, don't care the how or the why. It's just frustrating that Jerry has made as many guys as he has and hasn't improved the overall team.

I dont think Yelich was being shopped around when we got Gordon, I think when Yelich found out the Marlins were having a firesale he bitched his way out. I think that the Marlins didnt want to trade Yelich. I also dont think we had the ammo to land him

but do you think the Mariners could have offered a competitive deal? remember Dipoto tried to get him before with a better farm.

Of all the prospects traded to Marlins from Yelich, Ozuna, Stanton, and Gordon, Mariners traded them the only top 100 prospect. So ya, I really believe they could easily have. A package including some of Gamel, Gonzalez, Lewis, Miranda could have pulled it off. I would have any and/or all of those guys for Ozuna because I think he is worth it plus all those guys are replaceable with free agents. Heck I would have added Zunino and Niedert plus some of those guys for a Ozuna and Yelich deal. I can only imagine that outfield along with Haniger.

That's where I'm at, but I have the hindsight is 20/20 thing. The Marlins had a fire sale, didn't get a whole lot back and IMO the Mariners not got the worst (of the 4 IMO) but we need a CF, they had one but got a 2B. The trade doesn't make sense unless they are moving Cano but he traded for Healy.

But to be fair, the Marlins had that OF for what 3 years and sucked.

That is like saying we had Cruz and Cano for the last 3 years and sucked. It takes village...

Eh, to me that's a little different. The Marlins underachied IMO with their potential. Made no sense why they resigned Stanton, they raised their payroll so high with a cheap owner.

I know he didn't turn out to be jack but the Cruz Jr. for Tomlin Spoljerek (sp) pissed me off. Cruz didn't amount to anything but he was the number 1 prospect in American and got dealt for two bullpen arms, not a dominant closer but just two dudes who weren't good enough to start or close.
When I was a kid I would go to the Everett Giants/Aquasox baseball camp every year so I had loads of gear from players that either never made it or barely made it. I had couple Everett Aquasox baseball cards of Jose Cruz Jr.... I took it to a card shop and traded for 2 Griffey's, a Dan Wilson and Chris Bosio (Bosio because he signed my hat).

Bosio and Wilson opened our local little league field. I really didn't know who Wilson was at the time but knew Bosio cause my buddies dad was a huge Brewers fans. Those two guys were so awesome to us. I never did get a Griffey card, I can't remember how much money I spend on those Topps boxes trying to get one of him.

baseball cards were a big deal in my family, when I was a kid I thought they were cool and would get complete sets as gifts from the grand parents. I ended up with over 200 Griffey cards and tried to collect all the Mariners I could. My dad still has most of his cards from his youth, they are pretty cool to look at. Recently a sports memorabilia auctioneer gave my dad $100 just to look at his collection... Sadly I just don't care about baseball cards anymore, should get rid of them before they get destroyed or damaged somehow.
