Yeah, #31 started this season.

For Vegas.

I don't get it, either, but for their expansion year, they aren't doing half bad so far.

But yeah, I was reading up on a phone app, and they were saying that Seattle would make sense, more than just the border war we'd have with the Canucks.

Only workable if they build an arena and have the right ownership. Rumor up north has it that Calgary can't get an arena deal and could relocate to maybe Seattle but I think it's a long way off. NHL brass seems to be shying away from expansion and looking more to relocation. Phoenix or Florida are two others that could move at some point.

If it ever happens I'd finally have a Seattle team to cheer for.

Would be nice for Vancouver as well. We have no close blood rival.

I'll keep a eye out. Arizona is starting to pick up building something there.

Florida has been bothered by injuries.

Calgary (new opition) is bound for another playoff run

That's not happening. Just negotiating ploy to try and get the taxpayers to fund more of the oil money billionaires who own the team.

Highlights from the above article

Los Angeles-based Oak View says it wants the arena deal with or without a major sports tenant. Under the existing MOU language, the estimated $600 million arena will operate under a 39-year lease with two, eight-year renewal options. The existing roofline will be preserved but little else as the group plans to gut the structure and dig down another 15 feet to expand the footprint.

mixture of private money and $70 million in tax breaks given to historical landmarks. (If those tax breaks are not available OVG officials have said the company will cover the additional cost.) Also, it has said it will guarantee that the city will never make less than the $2.4 million in tax revenue the arena currently generates.

OVG has said it will spend $40 million on traffic mitigation

It also has promised to rehire workers who would lose their jobs during the closure.

Groz: 'Arena fatigue' in Seattle reason for lack of enthusiasm about new KeyArena deal
Arena fatigue’ in Seattle reason for lack of enthusiasm about new KeyArena deal

I feel it's more likely they had a great plan given to them and the Seattle city council pissed it away because they weren't going to get anything and are hell bent on using the Key. Add to the fact that its been dragging on for years is why I feel there's a lack of enthusiasm.

Feel bad for hockey fans, the entire set up is destined for failure before a shovel has been put in the ground. Hockey fans deserve better.

Destined for failure?? Please elaborate. This statement reminds me of last year when the competing sites were the Key and SoDo, and someone told me the Key was "unfeasible" as a course of action...yet here we are about to renovate the Key and likely get an NHL team.

It still is unfeasible and in a worse shape now that OVG got a golden egg deal from the city. I love that Seattle is going to get a NHL team but the NHL was willing to come to Seattle with zero arena plan anywhere two years ago but noone in the metro area put in an application so instead of awarding one of the other applicants they didn't expand to 32. Not trying to put a damper on anyone's parade guaranteed within 5 years the Seattle franchise will be in the same exact situation the Coyotes and Sonics were in.

I guess we have a different definition of "feasible."

The traffic and parking situation is only getting worse so I don't see this ending well. However a friend of mine had a theory that with the density of residential units in the immediate area, that they could be the customer base to make this work. IDK about that but a interesting theory. I know I would never go to the key arena just to much a pain to get there for me.
