Butch, Bret and Freeze need a job...so Michigan could get a four for one old fired SEC coaches. Sorry, but Sumlin is already double dipping.
Lyle is getting 200k/month until February 2021. I'm no lawyer but from what I read back in November, his buyout would be much less if he is hired somewhere else, so I doubt we'll see Lyle for a while.

Mac could double as the Special Teams coach.

He had extensive experience at UF with the Kick-off return team and the punt team.

If he gets a job they'll probably do like we did with Kiffin and USC.

We paid Kiffin very little while he was at Alabama because if we paid him more, it would just come out of the USC money. So USC actually paid him to coach at Alabama.

Coaching is a funny thing. Because he also turned around the CSU offense and had top 20 offenses a few times while there.
HE wasnt the OC .. your only as good as your coordinators. after that YOU have to fix what's wrong and if you can't you lose

Pretty much what is happening with Pelini/Nebraska at Youngstown State. These coaches can take the road of getting a big time assistant job to build their rep up again or take on a somewhat charity case at a small time school. All while their former school foots the bill

Bit of a downgrade there. Wonder though if maybe Michigan promotes him to HC if Harbaugh leaves.

Wouldn’t it make sense for him to be coaching defense? Considering Florida and all

He was considered on offensive guru and QB whisperer before he arrived at Florida.

Word is that McElwain landed the job and will be WR/OC but the specifics aren't known yet. Rumors are that Drevno and Pep have been demoted and part of McElwain coming was a "coordinator" title.

What would a “passing coach” be demoted to?

QB coach and OC non-play caller. Drevno would be O-line and OC. Both keep their titles but don't call plays. At least that's the rumors.

Three offensive coordinators? That seems a tad excessive to just placate egos of two coaches who have been wildly ineffective.

IDK man. It seems messed up to me. But if it fixes the offense, whatever. If it doesn't this year? Then I expect the whole lot on offense to get the ax after the season.

It's odd to me that when Harbaugh lost Durkin to Maryland, he went out and found a dude that created the #1 defense at BC, with no ties to Michigan or his staff, to be our DC. It's worked spectacularly. On offense, Harbaugh loses Fisch, who was great, and then just promotes his friend to OC that fails miserably. Only to then hire two other OC's who don't have some great track record of success. It seems like the opposite plan of how he went about fixing the defense.

It’s not like it’s Michigan State where the admins are wanting to cheap out on assistants. Michigan is paying top tier money. They should be able to attract some top tier talent there.

It's official......

Jim McElwain's position with Michigan is.....

.....kinda fuzzy/unclear:

http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sp...-jim-mcelwain-joins-michigan-staff/110544196/

Here is the first sentence of the article:

Former Florida head coach Jim McElwain has joined Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh’s staff as receivers coach and will also be involved coordinating the offense, ESPN.com reported Saturday night.

Involved...hmmm.
