No better way to start the season then the way they ended it last year but with an injury.

I'll never understand why some players wait til the offseason is almost over before they have surgery for an injury that they knew needed to be dealt with serval months prior.

According to what I was reading the Mariners thought rest would heal it. I don't really know anything about bone spurs but it seems like most sports franchises do surgery right away on a clean up and it seems they should've done surgery right away. Now with this surgery, he probably will be back by opening day but I'm not sure he will be ready to come in and be the everyday 1B. He's already not a very good defensive 1B so coming in with no time in fielding or hitting against real competition, I just he will start off as a liability on offense and defense at least for the first month. Kind of like Valencia was last year offensively but he was at least serviceable defensively.

If Ford becomes Gehrig I think all of us would take it. Though I'd prefer a starter gets hurt and they find a pitching equivalent of Gehrig.

If only we had anything remotely close to Lou Gehrig. Does it matter who we put at first base? Here is what happens:
1. They suck
2. We give up on them.
3. They go somewhere else and have a 30+ homerun season.

Our top 10 list franchise list of first baseman would be a pretty pathetic list. Start with Alvin Davis and then watch it die a quick death. Olerud,.....?

I have always said that if you limp coming into the season you will most likely leave the season limping. I am more interested in watching how this organization develops our prospects I just do not trust our pitching rotation I feel that they will start breaking down some point this season and will end up needing to trade or promote early our pitchers

I posted this the other day on another thread, but same theme:

Not that we were ever going to sign Hosmer or any legit 1B, but a reminder that Mariners are 28th in RBI's from the 1B position this decade. But we have Hack Healy recovering and ready to take us to the next level.

Scott Servais said:
“We knew there was an issue there, I think absolutely the best case scenario came out if it,” said Scott Servais. “It’s supposed to be OK, I think four to six weeks is what we are looking at. I know Ryon, he is shooting for before the 4 weeks is up. It was not a major deal.”

One of the things Servais clarified is the fact that the 4-6 weeks is the time frame for when they will have him back to "Game-Ready"

Ya, but Jerry said the same thing with Smyly and Iwakuma last year. I think his line was 4-6 weeks but expect him pitching for the Mariners after 4.

It's not so much I'm worried he won't be able to play, it's the him not out there trying to get better at 1B with his teammates. Hitting I don't see as much an issue but will take him some time getting use to live MLB pitching again. I will be the first to admit I have zero clue on his defensive abilities but everything any national person has said is he is a crappy fielder, much like how everyone said Montero sucked as a catcher.
