Picked this up over Black Friday and been playing it since. It's really good so far but I haven't progressed that far into the story mostly because there's so much to do. The map is huge, its filled with different side quests, hunting, etc. The big thing is they've changed the combat system. It's taking me some time to get use to it. I'm not sure its better, its just...different. But overall, this game is a lot of fun so far.

Never got into Origins. Played for a few hours and it just wasn't doing it for me. Black Flag was great though.

Love this game. Right up there with Black Flag IMO. The map is crazy big. I'm just about to close out the 2nd tier of targets (The Crocodile is my current target) and I still have 3-4 regions or so still unexplored. Character is level 31 right now.

The new combat style takes some getting used to but I love it. It's a lot more unforgiving which makes it more difficult. The old style of "block then counter" or whatever you want to call it was getting very boring. Adding new counter kills unique to the new characters & weapons was only going to get you so far before it was all just the same. With the new combat style it takes a lot more action from the controller and it forces you to take your time with each opponent rather than slashing & dashing through the horde as it was in games past. And in a way, it forces you to be more methodical about your playing style. I found that I've focused on the cloak & dagger element a lot more because of it. I'd much rather take out as many opponents in an area as possible before taking people head on and getting overrun.

Recently found out about that Isu armor so I've been spending a lot of time on that. Got all the stone circles completed which was a bitch. Had to enter unexplored territories that were higher level than I was to get to some stone circles. Needless to say I died a lot lol. Bandits & predators were abundant in some areas making it very difficult to travel. Forced myself to get at least 1-2 viewpoints along the way which should help me out further down the road (fast traveling for quests).

All I have to do to get the armor now is collect silica. I'm about 10-12 pieces away.

This game is huge. Granted I don't play every day for hours on end but I still haven't finished it despite having it for over a month. The way I play, I like to clean out entire areas before moving on to the next one so that's what's slowing me down. There's just tons and tons of stuff to do. I just finished the Crocodile part of the main quest and I'm already level 40 from all that XP from doing the side missions, treasure quests, puzzles, etc. I don't even know how much is left in the game and I'm basically maxed out. And they've got new DLC coming this week too that opens up 2 new regions. This game is definitely the biggest AC they've had. I'm really enjoying it

At first I was bouncing around a lot as the quests took you near & far. I hadn't been focusing much on anything in particular. I'm usually very thorough about clearing entire areas as well but wasn't this time around. I recently started returning to lower level regions to start clearing more side quests and I realized how much easier it was because I was fighting level 12-15 opponents when I'm a level 30+. Not as enjoyable when it becomes that easy. So after clearing all those side quests that I passed by early on I've started to slow down and play more like you. I've even started to clear out the Phylaks. The most challenging fights I've ever faced so far. I like to go up against the ones that are a level above me or the same. I battled with 1 guy in one of the desert regions for what felt like a half hour. Stupid bandit patrols kept swooping in on horses and fucking it all up lol.

I'm about a level 34 now. Still a little ways to go to max out. At this point though most of the abilities that I acquire I don't need. Some are fun to play with though. I did find the animal companion perk to be rather useful. I'll pick off as many people as I can with the predator bow (using the slow-mo - awesome feature btw) then send in a level 35+ hippo or lion to occupy 4 guards while I loot the place. By the time they finally kill my animal I usually only have 1 or 2 guys left standing with very little health.

They've got an enemy auto-level feature you can turn on if those lower level areas are boring you too much. So if you're like level 34 and go to Alexandria for example, all the enemies will show up as 33 to 35.

I just finished off the Phylaks tonight. The first two I fought, I had random enemies ride up making the fights much more difficult. After that, I would just lure the Phylak to an area and ambush them. They're surprising easy to fight. I usually just hit them with an overkill that knocks them on their ass, do some damage while they are on the ground, back up and hit them with some warrior bow shots, then adrenaline kill. It seems like they are just strong but fight kinda dumb because they are never really able to do much damage (they are slow). The gladiator bosses have been the toughest fights for me, mostly because I suck at close range blocking and parrying. I mostly have to resort to running around in circle like a madman.

Damn I didn't know there was a feature for that! I'll definitely have to turn that on. Thanks!

Your fighting style sounds a lot like me. I suck at holding the LB button to block so I usually just evade the attacks a lot. Have you tried fighting Phylaks that are above your level? Much more challenging experience. I haven't tried the gladiator fights yet. I just unlocked the arenas though after taking out the Gallic brothers during the Crocodile quests. Pretty fun plotline i might add, but I found the Gallic brothers to be too easy. I dispensed of the large redhead in no time.

Side question... Had a "whoops" moment where I think I missed out on a twist in the Crocodile plot. When you go to the compound to kill the Crocodile... I dispensed of the Crocodile lady with a predator bow from long range, and then I noticed the guard standing next to her ran out next to the oil pots in front of the building she was in. So I lit a predator arrow & fired it directly at the oil pots. It was only moments before the arrow struck the pots that I realized it was Kensa! lol. She lit ablaze and died moments after, to which Bayek says a few thoughts/prayers about her. Was there a video sequence or something that would have triggered if I had approached her?

I fought the first Phylak about 4 levels above me. It was indeed tougher but it was also early in the game and I didn't really know what I was doing. All the others I fought at the same level or me being 1 or 2 above. That's how I fight most enemies.

As for the Kensa stuff, there's no cut scene. I snuck up on them on the rooftop and did an assassination on the Crocodile. As Bayek approached, he just spoke to himself like "That's Kensa!" along with some small dialogue bits. After the Crocodile death scene, I fought her while she was saying something about how Bayek doesn't understand, yayayada, killed her, he does the prayer stuff. It wasn't anything major which was surprising considering how they built Kensa up prior to that. They basically just totally glossed over her betrayal and Bayek's like "Oh well. Just gotta keep killing people because that's what I do!"

Same here. If the game isn't challenging you then you're doing it wrong. If you're playing on the easiest level then you might as well watch someone's walkthrough on youtube since you're basically playing it to "watch it".

I was mainly curious if there was a way to keep Kensa alive. She did help Bayek out with Neka and it made it seem like a tragedy to kill her. Like you said they built her up like she was going to be Bayek's accomplice moving forward. Oh well... If she had to die she certainly earned it by working for that child-killer. And also rode Bayek's coattails to advance in the arena. But mainly choosing to work for the child-killer. For that she deserved to burn alive exactly how I killed her! lol Pretty funny how you explained it.

Speaking of challenges....war elephants are hard. Just played my first one tonight (along with a god). Word of advice for both when you try them, use weapons that give you health bonuses on hits and kills. Otherwise, its damn near impossible

Haven't even heard of the War Elephants yet! Sounds intense! Do they enter the picture after you clear out the 2nd tier of targets?

Well at first I discovered one by accident when I just exploring the map but I didn't bother to fight it since I was way underleveled at the time. But the first mission you come across one if after you defeat the Crocodile, it sends you to the northwest corner of the map to a swamp region (can't remember the name). If you do the mission labled "Informant's Table", it takes you to a camp where you clean out the guys and when you're done, you can enter an area to fight the elephant. There's 4 of them in the game I believe, beat all 4 for an achievement

Finished the game accidentally before I should have. Didn't realize the Flavius battle would be the last main story quest. Oh well. Over the last week or so I've been going back through the map with a fine-toothed comb. Got the Isu & Phylak (black robe) legendary outfits. The Isu one makes you look like Iron Man. Also got the legendary sword & shield from the "Gift From the Gods" quest. Never played Final Fantasy before so I didn't understand the crossover reference. Had to look it up after I was pissed they never explained what in the hell it was all about. Pretty much maxed out everything. I think I just have 1 carbon crystal to find to craft my final bracer upgrade and that'll be the last upgrade. Not that I need it.

Once I'm finished grooming the maps for all question marks & corresponding slaughterfests I'm going to go back and complete the Cyrene & Hippodrome arenas. Never got very good at the Hippodrome. Also still need to slaughter the War Elephants. Been avoiding those but now that I have all the weapons I wanted I'm going to give it a go.

There's a new DLC out, The Hidden Ones, if you want more to play after you get done. It's 10 bucks if you don't already have the season pass. I haven't played it yet. Haven't had much time to play every night so I'm still cleaning out the Green Mountains and all the Roman areas above it. Also, beat 2 of the Gods. Just need the Anubis one to show back up. For "Gods", they are pretty easy. I have way more trouble with the elephants.
